Wendy’s Has A New Combo Meal, But We’re Not Convinced It’s Worth It

Wendy’s is never far from our lips (just yesterday, we were talking about the menu items we want to see make a return) – but recently, much of what we’ve reported hasn’t been the most positive for the chain. Wendy’s has hit a flurry of speed bumps this year, with a lawsuit from a customer alleging food poisoning, the bankruptcy of a franchisee with over 300 Wendy’s locations, and a fairly lukewarm customer response to its recent changes.

Now, Wendy’s is dropping a new combo meal, promising quality and value at the same time, which could win some people back over. The only problem is that it seems like its customers remain unconvinced.

Wendy’s $7.99 Dave’s Single Combo Meal

Wendy’s has just announced its new $7.99 Dave’s Single Combo Meal, a limited-time offer that brings together burger, fries, and drink (aka, the holy trinity) for a set price. Starting October 19, customers can get a Dave’s Single, a small Hot & Crispy Fries, and a small soft drink of their choice for just under $8. The deal will be available at participating Wendy’s restaurants, and you can order it in person, via the drive-thru, or online.

In its press release, Wendy’s states that its new Dave’s Single Combo Meal “[proves] fans don’t have to choose between quality and value at Wendy’s.” Its customers, though, feel slightly differently about the value proposition here. On Reddit, a thread discussing this new Combo Meal has garnered well over 100 comments, and the majority of them express the sentiment that this new offer feels too expensive for what it is. “Too little for too much. Same old story,” said one person, while another stated that “It’s kinda crazy to me how far Wendy’s is going to avoid lowering prices.” With all that said, some people do recognize this deal as a good one: “I can get behind this, assuming my locations offer it,” said one happier customer.

A Rocky Mood

The general feeling, though, is that the price here is just too high for what you get, and plenty of people have also said that, as it stands, Wendy’s food doesn’t quite feel good enough to justify the cost. The deal also comes at a time when fast food chains are being more competitive than ever with their lower-priced offers, and as a result, we’re seeing a lot of options that potentially beat out this one from Wendy’s. Checkers & Rally’s, for example, recently announced its Unbeatable Meal Deals, which give customers a wrap or sandwich, a Value Fry, an eight-piece of Chicken Bites, and a small drink for just $4. Whether Wendy’s new deal will win people over remains to be seen, and once the dust settles, people might be more positive about it — but so far, it hasn’t quite scratched their itch.
