Guinness fans might want to sit down for this one. The famous Irish stout has some serious competition, and it’s coming from a beer that looks completely different in the glass. According to YouGov’s 2026 popularity rankings, Corona has beaten Guinness to become America’s most popular beer brand.

That’s an interesting result, especially considering how much attention Guinness gets from beer fans. Its dark color, creamy head, and unmistakable look have made it easy to recognize. Corona, on the other hand, has a completely different appeal, with its pale lager and familiar lime wedge making it a favorite for sunny afternoons.

Corona Is America’s Most Popular Beer In 2026

According to YouGov’s 2026 beer popularity rankings, Corona leads the pack with a popularity score of 60%. Guinness follows at 56%, while Budweiser takes third place with 54%.

Samuel Adams and Heineken are tied at 49%, with Modelo close behind at 48%. Coors and Miller both score 47%, while Stella Artois rounds out the next group with 46%.

I think Corona is a pretty convincing winner. It’s a familiar choice for cookouts, beach days, and casual get-togethers.

Of course, a lighter lager won’t appeal to everyone. Some beer drinkers prefer something darker and richer, which is where Guinness comes in. Still, Corona’s first-place finish suggests that it has plenty of fans who give the brand a positive rating.

Guinness Still Has Plenty To Celebrate

Losing the top spot might sting a little, but Guinness fans have no reason to panic. The brand’s 56% popularity score is still impressive, and its name remains familiar to a huge share of American adults.

There’s just something different about Guinness. Its dark appearance, roasted flavor, and creamy head give it a look that sets it apart from lighter beers. It also has a long history behind it, making it a familiar choice for people who enjoy a traditional stout.

According to YouGov, Guinness has a fame score of 87%, meaning the brand is widely recognized. Its popularity score of 56% measures something different: the share of people who have a positive opinion of it.  This is important because a beer can be famous without being everyone’s favorite, and a familiar name doesn’t automatically win over every drinker.

I think Guinness has a strong case for staying near the top of the list. It offers something different from Corona, and that difference is part of its appeal. Someone who wants a rich stout probably isn’t looking for the same experience as someone reaching for a light lager on a hot afternoon.

Does Corona Deserve To Be America’s Favorite Beer?

That depends on what makes a beer a winner. For some people, it’s all about taste. For others, it’s about price, availability, or how well a beer pairs with food. Then there are drinkers who simply stick with a familiar brand because they know what to expect.

YouGov’s ranking focuses on positive opinions, not blind taste tests or sales figures. Its popularity data is collected continuously and updated quarterly, with the latest figures covering the third quarter of 2026.

I think this is an important detail to remember because the data could easily give readers the impression that Corona has outsold every other beer or won some grand taste competition. Neither conclusion follows from these numbers.
