Summer situationships may be dying out, but at least one fast-food chain is ready to help you heal. Carl’s Jr. is asking people to share the summer romance, situationship, or dating disaster that finally made them decide to stop settling… and it might reward you with a free chicken sandwich.

Because apparently heartbreak is now a loyalty-program perk.
Tell Carl’s Jr. About Your Dating Disaster
From August 12th through August 21st, eligible My Rewards members can anonymously submit a written story about a summer situationship or dating burn through Carl’s Jr.’s promotion page.
The first 1,000 eligible entries will receive an offer for a free Spicy Chicken Maxx, so there is at least a small prize for making it through whatever questionable romantic decision you made this summer.
There are a few rules (because of course there are). You have to be a My Rewards member, be 18 or older, and live in one of the 50 U.S. states or Washington, D.C. You also can’t include identifiable personal information in your story.
The free sandwich offer is valid through September 1st, while supplies last.
So if your summer romance ended with a “what are we?” conversation that somehow produced more questions than answers, this may be your moment to turn the experience into lunch.
The Spicy Chicken Maxx Is Doing A Lot
If you’re wondering what Carl’s Jr. considers a sandwich worthy of someone who has finally raised their standards, the Spicy Chicken Maxx isn’t exactly holding back.
It comes with two crispy spicy chicken patties, sliced pepper jack and American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayonnaise on a seeded bun. That’s two chicken patties and two kinds of cheese, so Carl’s Jr. clearly took the “don’t settle” part of its campaign seriously.
And if that isn’t spicy enough for you, there’s also a Make It Fiery option. For an additional 50 cents, you can add fiery sauce and jalapeños. So yes, you can apparently respond to a bad situationship by eating a sandwich with two spicy chicken patties and extra jalapeños. I support the commitment to the theme.
At Least You Get Something Out Of It
Carl’s Jr. is calling the promotion “Raise Your Standards to the MAXX,” which is certainly one way to turn getting ghosted into a marketing campaign.
But I can’t really argue with the basic premise. If someone wasted your entire summer with vague texts, questionable intentions, and a complete inability to define the relationship, you might as well get a chicken sandwich out of it.
Just remember that only the first 1,000 qualifying entries get the free sandwich offer, so don’t spend three hours writing the definitive exposé about your summer situationship only to submit it after everyone else has beaten you to it.
And if your dating life has been suspiciously peaceful this summer? Congratulations. You may be the real winner here.
