Best Avocado Dressing for Salad Making Superiority

Avocado dressing is a tough product to bottle—but we found five avocado dressings worth actually buying from the store. From the best avocado ranch dressing (it’s not the one you think!), to avocado yogurt dressing, to avocado cilantro dressing, these are the only store-bought avocado dressings worthy of your salads.

Avocados, in general, should be eaten fresh. It’s a fruit (or vegetable, depending on your own personal politics) that starts losing its flavor and appeal the second you slice it open. It is audacious to bottle it and think you’ll capture any of that fresh flavor. None of the avocado dressings we tried really, truly tasted like fresh avocado. But all of the avocado dressings we ranked have some avocado qualities—creaminess, vegetal sweetness, richness.

We also looked for utility (avocado dressings should be good for more than just salad, TBH), overall flavor, and texture. Avocado dressing should not be a vinaigrette. It should be on the thicker, creamier end of the spectrum.

So, avoid the dangers of cutting open an avocado and browse this list of the best avocado dressing.

Tostitos Toppers Avocado Lime

Best for Taco Salad

Tostitos Toppers Avocado Lime

You wouldn’t expect to get great salad dressing from a tortilla chip company, but this avocado lime dressing is pretty darn good. It is very tangy—I love how tangy it is—and zesty. However, I wouldn’t use it as avocado dressing for a salad that falls into the traditional definition of “salad.” I don’t think it works on straight lettuce. But I do think it’s the perfect drizzle for a taco salad or Southwestern-style legume salad.

Wish Bone Avocado Ranch

Best Tangy Ranch

Wish Bone Avocado Ranch

Of the two brands of avocado ranch dressing on this list, Wish Bone makes the tangier, limier option. It’s quite limey. But also it’s quite creamy. It tastes a little bit like a taco, to be honest—slightly savory, citrusy, and creamy. Drizzle it on a fish taco, dip fries into it, or, you know, dress a salad of butter leaf lettuce in it.

Bolthouse Farms Cilantro Avocado Yogurt Dressing & Dip

Best Cilantro Dressing

Bolthouse Farms Cilantro Avocado Yogurt Dressing & Dip

If you’re looking for avocado cilantro dressing, look no further. This avocado yogurt dressing is chock full of herbaceous cilantro flavor and actual bits of real cilantro. Thanks to the yogurt, it is creamy without being too heavy—it won’t weigh you down even if you pour it onto a salad. It is lacking in avocado flavor. You really only get a touch of guacamole-esque sweetness on the finish if you’re really looking for it. But it’s such a good cilantro avocado dressing—emphasis on the cilantro—I’ll forgive it.

365 Organic Avocado Greek Yogurt Dressing

Best Yogurt Dressing

365 Organic Avocado Greek Yogurt Dressing

Whole Foods makes the best yogurt-forward avocado Greek yogurt dressing. It leans into the tanginess of Greek yogurt with some added tartness from buttermilk, lime juice, and apple cider vinegar. The avocado provides a sweet, earthy, creamy base note. But this dressing is all about the ‘gurt. It would be great on a classic veggie salad but also good mixed with tuna and stuffed into an avocado for a retro lunch.

Litehouse Avocado Ranch Dressing & Dip

Best of the Best

Litehouse Avocado Ranch Dressing & Dip

The best avocado ranch dressing is also the best avocado dressing overall. Ooo wee, it’s so creamy! And you get a lot of avocado richness, as well. It is definitely the most avocado-y avocado salad dressing of the bunch. It captures everything you love about the best ranch dressing—the creaminess, the tanginess, the herbaceousness—and smashes it together with delicious avocado. Definitely dip some veggies in this. Actually, go ahead and use the veggies as a scoop to get as much dressing as you can into your mouth.

  • This article was very interesting to read and as a lover of avocado, I would rather eat the avocado itself or make it into a dip or dressing than buy it from the store.
