The best avocado salsa is creamy, citrusy, and fresh. The most important thing I learned in this taste test is that even the worst avocado salsa is a million times better than the best store bought guacamole.
I promise you this, I will never buy premade guacamole again. It sucks. I’ve always felt that way, but I didn’t have an alternative. What if we randomly decide we want nachos for dinner and none of the avocados at the store are ripe? But now I am filled with joy because the avocado salsa alternative is more delicious than I ever could’ve imagined. The options for store bought avocado salsa are good. They’re bright and fresh and don’t have that weird chemical-y taste that store-bought guac does. Plus, you can leave this out at a party and it doesn’t get brown like guac! It was hard to choose the top contenders because they’re all good, but this is our ranking of the best avocado salsa you can buy at the grocery store.
- Wholly Guacamole Avocado Verde
-
Wholly Guacamole’s Avocado Verde is 10,000 times better than their guacamole. It is so fresh and tangy and well-seasoned. It’s creamy and rich. It doesn’t have any weird stringy pieces of avocado like many containers of premade guac. This is the most avocado-forward of all the avocado salsas we tried and it would make a great guacamole dupe.

- Herdez Avo Tomatillo Salsa
-
This is one of the best avocado salsa brands we tried because it is so herbaceous and savory. It’s not very spicy and it’s not super tangy. It is perfectly balanced. This is a great salsa for mild salsa lovers. This would be the perfect taco topping. Pour it over a meat, refried bean, and cheese-stuffed tortilla for a dreamy wet burrito. Honestly, I don’t think you could go wrong with putting this on anything. It’s definitely one of the best store bought avocado salsa brands out there.

- Casa Sanchez Taqueria Style Avocado Salsa
-
If you want a real punch of citrus, Casa Sanchez is the best avocado salsa by a mile. This stuff is so zesty. I had to close the lid and put it in the fridge after a few bites to physically keep myself from eating the whole thing. It is absolutely crave-able. It’s like the best freshly made salsa verde you’ve ever had mixed with perfectly ripe avocados. It’s no surprise, though. We love Casa Sanchez’s salsa verde and red salsas. I will absolutely continue to buy this on a regular basis.

- Herdez Guacamole Salsa Medium & Herdez Guacamole Salsa Mild
-
The bottled Herdez guacamole salsa is the closest thing we tried to actual avocado salsa. It’s liquid-y in a good way (even though I know that doesn’t sound appetizing). This is the actual texture of a salsa you’d pour onto a taco or use as a dip for tortilla chips. It has a nice heat level and is super creamy without containing any dairy. They sell these in two-packs at my Costco and I go through them faster than I should. I love you, Herdez guacamole salsa.

Warning – never, ever, ever buy tostitos avocado salsa. It tastes like melted plastic with some sort of chemical aftertaste. How this passed any level of testing to make it to shelves is beyond me.
Omg wow I never thought about using avacado salsa instead of guac. That is genius. I hate store bought guac with a burning passion!
Herdez makes the best store brand guacamoles and salsas. My refrigerator always has a jar of container of theirs in some capacity.
