It was only a matter of time before we were taste testing baby food pouches here at Sporked. We’ve worked our way through all the grown-up stuff, like canned hot dog chili and Target’s bagged salads. So, we’ve moved onto toddler pouches.
As a mother of two toddlers, I am a frequent purchaser of fruit and veggie pouches. They’re easy. They’re at least somewhat nutritious (not as good as an actual piece of fruit but better than straight juice). And they’re shelf-stable so they’re easy to take on-the-go and I don’t have to worry about making space within my miniscule refrigerator. Prior to this taste test, I relied on packaging aesthetics when choosing what I thought would be the best baby food pouches. But when it comes to finding the best baby food pouches that actually taste good, looks don’t really come into play.
In my search for the best pouches for toddlers, et al, I chose a selection of food pouches that represented both sweet and savory. I grabbed some fruit pouches, some veggie pouches, and some fruit and veggie pouches that combine the two. I looked for brands that hadn’t been in the news for including lead or other heavy metals or mold. I looked for food pouches that didn’t contain a ton of sugar. And I looked for flavors that sounded like they might actually taste good.
I tasted them all myself, and I also brought some of the top contenders home to get some opinions from a real, live toddler. Through this experience, I learned a hard lesson—I had been giving my kids food pouches that did not taste great. Personally, I feel like if I won’t eat it, I probably shouldn’t give it to my offspring. If you feel the same, then I recommend you give your pouch picks a quick sip. And, if you’re not pleased with your findings, then follow this list and buy the best baby food pouches that truly taste great.

- Earth’s Best Organic Sweet Potato & Beets Veggie Puree
-
My kids are not into savory pouches. I remember the great sea salt and rosemary sweet potatoes debacle of ‘23. I have learned from my mistakes. However, if your kids can handle a pouch that doesn’t taste like a fruit smoothie, then allow me to recommend this veggie pouch from Earth’s Best. The beet and sweet potato flavors come together to create an earthy puree that tastes homemade. If your tot loves roasted root vegetables, this is one of the best baby food pouches to buy. And even if you don’t have a kid, this veggie pouch would make a delightful sauce spooned onto some roasted fish or chicken.

- Cerebelly White Bean Pumpkin Apple
-
Got a kid who loves their food bland as bland can be? Stock up on these fruit and veggie pouches. Because these white bean, pumpkin, and apple pouches are bland—but in the best way possible. The blend is extremely creamy thanks to the white bean. The apple is subtle and the pumpkin is hidden. There is a touch of cinnamon, but that’s about it. There’s only 5g of sugar and there’s 4g of protein. The next time my tummy’s feeling delicate, I’m slurping down a couple of these food pouches.

- Trader Joe’s Apple Mango Crusher
-
Ranked as one of the best applesauce pouches to buy, Trader Joe’s tropical applesauce is a sweet treat you or your kiddos can enjoy while also getting a couple of vitamins (namely, vitamin C along with some potassium and dietary fiber). The mango elevates the apple sauce with its citrusy tropicality. Chill down a few of these fruit pouches for a totally delightful summertime refresher.

- White Leaf Provisions Pear + Banana + Kiwi
-
It’s sweet. It’s fruity. It’s tropical. It’s good. And I do love the minimalist packaging design—it’s not childish so you can crush one without getting too many looks. Plus, there’s 3g of dietary fiber, 15mg of calcium, and 120mg of potassium. And, if such things matter to you, everything that goes into the pouch is certified biodynamic and organic. The packaging is recyclable. And it’s also certified kosher. But, most importantly, this simply tastes good. If you, the adult reading this, needs a quick boost of fruit in the car, it’s one of the best baby food pouches.

- Kekoa Foods Curry Vegetable Mango
-
This is not for every kiddo. Made with celery, carrot, onion, potato, garlic, and curry (!!), it’s tangy, carroty, and just a touch fruity, thanks to the mango. Personally, I love it. Out of all of these baby food pouches, this is the one I would slurp down. If you have a kid who likes curry or may be curry curious, this is one of the best pouches for toddlers you can buy. And if it turns out they don’t like it, you can just squirt it onto a plate with some rice and chow down.

- Once Upon a Farm Organic Fruit & Veggie Blend Wild Rumpus Avocado
-
A blend of pineapple, banana, apple, avocado, and mint, this is one of the more sophisticated fruit pouches we tried. The pineapple is certainly the most prominent flavor, though you do get a hint of fresh mint, as well. The avocado is undetectable. If I was reviewing this pouch for a grown-up, I might dock it points for that. But since we’re talking pouches for toddlers, it actually earns it points. Not all kiddos love avocado, and this is a great way to sneak in those healthy fats.

- Kekoa Foods Apple & Ginger
-
Is it wrong to say I think this fruit pouch would make a great cocktail? It’s bright and fresh and the ginger is incredible. I’m not totally sure all tots love ginger, but if they can handle it, this is one of the best fruit pouches around. It’s that next step up from applesauce. And I think it would be soothing for an upset tummy.

- Peter Rabbit Organics Banana, Mango, Broccoli & Kale
-
My kids tend to like most offerings from Peter Rabbit. And, after tasting a few myself, I can see why. For the most part, they all taste like really good fruit smoothies—even when they’re fruit and veggie pouches like this one. The mango is vibrant and flavorful enough to mostly mask the earthy, vegetal broccoli flavor. It’s there if you really look for it, but the bright, tropical fruit flavor helps distract from it. I particularly like this pouch’s balanced flavors—it’s tart, it’s sweet, it’s fresh.

- Sprout Organics Apple, Banana & Butternut Squash
-
My four-year-old was really into this cozy blend of apple, banana, and butternut squash. It’s definitely on the sweeter end of the spectrum, but it has just 11g of sugar (not nothing but not terrible). It mostly tastes like banana and apple, while the squash contributes a silky, creamy texture. This is one of the best baby food pouches for delivering squash to somewhat picky eaters.

- Plum Organics Pear, Purple Carrot & Blueberry
-
The packaging of this pouch lets you know exactly what you’re getting: half a pear, one third of a purple carrot, and 15 blueberries. But it tastes just like fresh, unsweetened applesauce. So they’ll never know they’re eating a third of a carrot—cue evil parent laugh. Plus, it’s a really pretty pretty purple color, so if your kid is going through a purple phase, stock up on these fruit and veggie pouches.

- Peter Rabbit Organics Strawberry & Banana
-
I know, I know, you were hoping to see a super-duper healthy fruit and veggie pouch made with mostly kale and zero sugar in the top spot. But both my kiddos and I agreed: Peter Rabbit Strawberry & Banana fruit pouches are the best baby food pouches—at least when it comes to flavor. This fruit pouch tastes like a quality smoothie made with fresh, tangy strawberries and creamy, sweet banana. I’d happily suck this down if my kids would let me have one.
