There are so many energy drink flavors. And they’re not, like, orange or strawberry or pineapple or vanilla. They’re much more complicated and imaginative. Energy drinks come in flavors like Pink Bubble Screamo or Sea Spray Lightning or Bliss. But there is one “real” flavor that most energy drink brands embrace: blue raspberry.

But what’s the best blue raspberry energy drink? I tried seven blue raspberry energy drinks to find out.

What we looked for in the best blue raspberry energy drink

  • Real blue raspberry flavor. I know, there is no real blue raspberry in nature. But we all know what blue raspberry tastes like. At least, I thought we all knew. Some of the blue energy drinks we tasted had more in common with apple cider than any blue raspberry product.
  • Balance of sweet and tang. The best blue raspberry energy drink shouldn’t be too sweet, nor should it be so tangy that it gets caught in your throat.
  • Actual blue color. Okay, so none of the winners of our best blue raspberry energy drink taste test are actually blue. Most of the drinks we sampled were clear. One was yellow. And only one brand we tasted–Sparkling Ice Caffeine–was even close to being blue and it was greyish blue. But, ideally, the best blue raspberry energy drinks should actually be BLUE.

Here are the top three best blue raspberry energy drinks to buy when you’re craving that classic almost-but-not-quite-real fruit flavor.

Alani Nu Breezeberry

Best Intense Blue Raspberry Energy Drink

Alani Nu Breezeberry

See? Even some of the blue raspberry flavored energy drinks aren’t simply called blue raspberry. This one is named after an even more imaginary berry–a breezeberry. But it is blue raspberry flavored, trust me. It is very, very, very tangy. And it is very, very, very sweet. Seriously, it’s a good thing it comes in a small can because no one could possibly drink more than 12 ounces. The blue raspberry flavor is most closely akin to a super concentrated blue Italian ice or blue popsicle. It’s good—but it’s intense and not for everyone.

Ghost Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry

Best Mild Blue Raspberry Energy Drink

Ghost Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry

If you’re looking for a much more mild take on a blue raspberry energy drink (comparatively speaking) then this Ghost Energy is the one for you. It doesn’t really taste like a Sour Patch Kid, but it is definitely candy-ish. It has a nice balance of sweet and tangy with a good berry flavor. And, even though it’s clear, I swear you get the flavor of blue dye.

C4 Jolly Rancher Blue Raspberry

Best of the Best

C4 Jolly Rancher Blue Raspberry

Like the baby bear’s porridge of the blue raspberry energy drink world, this one is just right. It really had me yelling, now that is blue raspberry! Seriously, if an alien came to me and asked me what blue raspberry tasted like, I would give it this C4 flavor. It’s rich and tangy and sweet and it truly tastes blue. And it really does taste like a Jolly Rancher. Plus, it has this really tasty sour quality that keeps you coming back. I could actually see myself finishing one of these—and then running full force through a wall leaving a Justine-shaped hole.

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
