But they didn’t win “best fries!”

Videos by Sporked

The international market research and data analysis firm YouGov just released the results of nation-wide survey ranking consumer responses to 52 U.S. fast food burger chains. And after all that research, the winner turned out to be…

Five Guys Beat the Competition

Yep, Virginia-based burger chain Five Guys took top spot in the competition, with 15.5 percent of respondents listing them as the answer to the question: “Which fast food restaurant has the best tasting burgers?” As a big Five Guys fan, it’s not that surprising to me, as their big cooked-to-order burgers have never disappointed me.

Next on the list was Burger King at 15 percent, and In-N-Out Burger at 12.1 percent. That’s the real surprise for me, as In-N-Out has such a fanatical following that I’ve literally never seen one with an empty drive-through. Is it the fact that it’s still only in a handful of states that’s keeping it from being better known? Or is it those block-long drive through traffic jams that keep people from trying it? Who knows?

But Five Guys Didn’t Win Best Fries…

Five Guys didn’t completely sweep the competition, as McDonald’s took the spot for best fries at 39.2 percent. Five Guys did come in second, however, at nine percent. Personally, I think this might be more about the sheer market dominance of McDonald’s, rather than the quality of actual fries. Although, I can’t argue with the nostalgia of a piping hot carton of McDonald’s fries. (And there’s always the possibility that Five Guys took a hit from the recent rumor that they were changing their fry recipe, too.)
