The Best CBD Drinks, Ranked

The best CBD drinks can easily replace your hard seltzers and canned cocktails any day. Seriously, after this taste test, I’m a CBD beverage convert. We’ll talk about why, but first things first: 

What are CBD drinks? 

CBD drinks are beverages infused with cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound found in hemp. Unlike THC, CBD won’t get you high, but many people turn to it for its calming, relaxing (and in my case, spaced-out) effects. That being said, some CBD drink brands like Recess use hemp extract and adaptogens (e.g. ginseng and L-theanine) to target stress relief and focus—and hemp extract can include a little bit of THC. I tried a few hemp-infused drinks from the Recess line, which I’ll get into below! 

How we found the CBD drinks and conducted this taste test

Obviously, you can find CBD drinks at cannabis dispensaries if you live in a state where weed is legal, but we were also able to pick some up from BevMo, too. Instead of tasting them side-by-side, I tried one CBD drink a day so I could note both their taste and effects. I can’t say I’d recommend you sip CBD drinks during a work day when you’re supposed to be productive, but there was no way around it for me. 

What we looked for in the best CBD drinks

This was a completely different experience from my recent taste test of the best CBD gummies for sleep. I’m genuinely pretty amazed by most of the beverages I tried, simply because they don’t taste like weed… at all. If you put these in a blind taste test with other regular seltzers, I don’t think I could pick out the drinks with CBD. (The same cannot be said for CBD gummies; you cannot escape the flavor of bitter earth.) Not only that—most of them have a really pleasant flavor on par with some of my favorite seltzer brands. Turns out, the best CBD drinks are functional and delicious. If someone presents me any of these options at a party, I’m choosing them over alcohol, no contest!

Recess Peach Ginger

Recess Peach Ginger tastes like a sparkling herbal tea infused with a hint of peach and lingering zing of ginger. It’s a little different—I don’t think it’s for everyone, but it’s definitely interesting and I’m personally pretty partial to it. This beverage line from Recess includes hemp extract, and I couldn’t necessarily tell the difference between these and the other CBD drinks I tried. It’s a very similar laid-back buzz, just with varying degrees of intensity—and this was on the more mild side. Any trace amount of THC it may contain definitely didn’t give me a high. (Just to note: Recess also has a line of strictly adaptogen and magnesium infused beverages that don’t contain hemp. Don’t confuse this with their “Mood” Peach Ginger, which won’t give you any sort of buzz!)

Wyld Raspberry

I had high expectations for Wyld’s CBD-infused sparkling waters, since this brand is behind our current favorite CBD sleep gummies. I was not disappointed, you guys. Raspberry is one of those flavors that can be a little boring, which is why generic seltzers like LaCroix and Polar tend to pair it with a second flavor, but this bevvy is so light, refreshing, and clean tasting, I have no complaints. Like all of the best CBD drinks, the flavor contains zero trace of weed. Every sip goes down super easy. Wyld’s sparkling water contains 50mg of CBD, and I definitely started to mellow out about ten minutes into sipping.

This bitter blackberry flavor is just as refreshing as Wyld’s raspberry CBD drink, but with a little more zing. Both flavors are great for people who avoid sweet drinks, in my opinion. But the blackberry version tastes extra crispy. The carbonation sharpens the tartness, while the CBD had me feeling nice and drifty. It doesn’t necessarily make me tired, but it does slow the world down a bit.

Rogue Blueberry Passionfruit

I wish I had tried more flavors of Rogue’s CBD Seltzers, because the two cans I did find blew me away. Why does this fruity blend taste better than 80% of regular seltzers I’ve had over the years? The blueberry is mellow and smooth, while the passionfruit gives it a little zing. Rogue CBD drinks only have 30mg of CBD, but in my experience, they have an effect that’s just as strong as Wyld. (And they come in a bigger can, so you can pace yourself if you want.)

Rogue CBD Lavender Mint Lemonade

Honestly, I would sip all of these CBD drinks for the flavor alone, but the hint of mint in Rogue’s CBD Lavender Mint Lemonade is so lovely and unique. This blend just really stood out for me. It’s not nearly as floral as you would expect; it’s closer to an unsweetened lemonade with a touch of mint. If you’re looking for the best CBD drink to replace a summery daytime cocktail, this is the one.
