Can you believe that we hadn’t done a taste test of the best frozen fettuccine alfredo yet? This one’s been a long time coming, folks. Call me basic, but alfredo pasta is such a comfort meal for me. Quite honestly, this might have been my favorite taste test to date. From classic fettuccine to more involved alfredo pasta bakes, we found some real winners. (And losers. There are some really boring frozen alfredo meals out there.) Let’s discuss.

How we sourced the frozen alfredo pasta meals

Quick confession: I’ve knowingly misled you with the title of this article. This is not simply a ranking of the best frozen fettuccine alfredo, no no. I refuse to discriminate between my alfredo pastas. I bought every pasta meal in the frozen aisle with the word “alfredo” in it, because why not? For the most part, we focused on products you can find in most major supermarkets across the country—but if we missed your favorite, comment below and we’ll try it next time!

What we looked for in the best frozen fettuccine alfredo and frozen alfredo pasta meals

It’s fairly easy to boil pasta and throw some store-bought alfredo sauce on top. These frozen meals need to bring more to the table. We want a rich, creamy sauce with addictive flavor, perfectly cooked noodles (or as close as frozen can get), a good balance of cheesy parmesan and seasoning, and meat that’s actually enticing. Bonus points for value!

How we prepared the frozen alfredo pasta meals

I got a little fancy with this one, fam. Yes, I microwaved each one (no one has time for these little trays to bake for 40 minutes in a standard oven), but I didn’t think that was sufficient enough to get the full tasting experience, so I also threw them in the oven for five to ten minutes after to get a nice bake on the top. Creamy pasta bakes are my weakness. So is my lactose intolerance. So pop a Lactaid with me, and let’s dig into the best frozen fettuccine alfredo, chicken alfredo, and other alfredo pastas you can buy at the grocery store.

Lean Cuisine Chicken Alfredo

Best Budget

Lean Cuisine Chicken Alfredo

You know what? This Lean Cuisine meal actually surprised me. It’s not trying to reinvent the wheel, but it has a classic creamy alfredo flavor, good fettuccine texture (not mushy, thank god), and seared chicken slices that aren’t rubbery (I cannot and will not stand for rubbery chicken). We found this for just $2.94 at Walmart, which was cheaper than a ton of blander options out there. Grind in some black pepper for a little extra oomph and you’ve got yourself a cheap, easy, high-protein lunch.

Scott & Jon's Shrimp Alfredo Pasta Bowl

Best Shrimp Alfredo

Scott & Jon’s Shrimp Alfredo Pasta Bowl

Hey Scott and Jon, you’ve done something pretty neat here. Hats off to you both. Every single ingredient in this shrimp alfredo harmonizes in a way that feels intentional. The sauce verges on salty, but it totally works for the buttery, garlicky flavor profile. The broccoli is cooked beautifully and actually complements the rest of the dish—it’s not just thrown in for nutrition. The penne has that lovely ridged texture that sauce clings to. The shrimp is nothing to write home about, but for a cheap frozen meal, what can you really expect?

Marie Callender's New Orleans Style Chicken Alfredo Bowl

Best Alfredo Sauce

Marie Callender’s New Orleans Style Chicken Alfredo Bowl

With an incredibly savory sauce made with sherry wine and blackening seasonings, I simply could not stop eating Marie Callender’s New Orleans-style chicken alfredo. This was the very first frozen alfredo pasta I tried of the bunch, and it set a high bar in every department…well, except for the chicken. (I bit into one piece of hard chicken, which ruined the experience—consider yourself warned.) But the sauce! The sauce, you guys. It’s so bright, peppery, and complex. The diced red peppers mixed in bring a nice sweetness and zest, too. This came close to overtaking Zatarain’s, but unfortunately, the best frozen chicken alfredo pasta needs to have yummy chicken. That’s just common sense.

Zatarain’s Blackened Chicken Alfredo

Best Grilled Chicken

Zatarain’s Blackened Chicken Alfredo

Zatarain’s, Zatarain’s…third place is good, but I actually expected you to be higher on this list. Sorry, that’s probably rude to open with right off the bat. Let’s backtrack and start with what I loved about this. That seared, golden-browned chicken seasoned with a cajun spice? Spectacular. (High praise coming from me; I really don’t get along with microwaved meat.) The alfredo is creamy, actually thick, and infused with a blackened spice mix that sets it apart from blander brands. I really enjoyed the flavor overall—but for a Zatarain’s product, I expected a bolder, spicier, even more flavorful pasta. Also, the penne is overcooked. I’m sorry. But I wouldn’t be so tough on this if I didn’t think it had real potential. Believe it or not, the first time we tried it for our high protein frozen meals taste test, we gave it 10 Sporks. It is really yummy. The problem here is that now we’ve tried it against our top two alfredo pastas, and they are, simply put, yummier. Still, it’s easily one of the best frozen chicken alfredos you can buy.

Rao’s Chicken Alfredo

Runner Up

Rao’s Chicken Alfredo

Trying Rao’s Chicken Alfredo was a borderline spiritual experience. I learned things about myself I never knew. For example: I would do anything for cavatappi pasta. Put those ridged twirly noodles in front of me and I lose all self-control. If Rao’s jarred alfredo tastes this good, I will honestly stop budgeting for their marinara sauce and buy this instead. The white wine and savory chicken stock in the sauce add real depth—it’s not overly creamy or rich, but it’s still incredibly flavorful. Now, that said, I absolutely have a bone to pick with the small portion size and high price. It’s a major drawback that can’t be ignored. Still, it’s one of the best frozen chicken alfredo meals I’ve ever had… second only to one.

Patti’s Good Life Patti LaBelle Cajun Style Fettuccine Alfredo

Best of the Best

Patti’s Good Life Patti LaBelle Cajun Style Fettuccine Alfredo

Her Majesty the Queen Patti LaBelle has yet to let us down. This is not your traditional fettuccine alfredo…it’s better. Patti never holds back—just like her delicious mac and cheese, the sauce is rich. The flavor is impeccable; it tastes like it’s been slow-cooked in fresh cajun spices on the stove for hours. You literally don’t need to add anything to it at all. This is better than anything you could order at Olive Garden. It’s certainly better than anything I’ve ever made at home. (Patti has influenced me to add a heavy amount of cajun seasoning to any alfredo pasta I make going forward.) Plus, the balanced heat level is perfect for a family-sized meal. The only real downside is that if you go the oven-only route, it takes nearly an hour to cook. We definitely recommend heating it in the microwave first. Either way, this is the best frozen fettuccine alfredo we’ve ever tried, and it’s absolutely worth the wait.
