Chips Ahoy! cookies are primarily known for one thing: being small. They’re bite-sized little cookies chock full of chocolate chips. And while they do not taste homemade, they have their own thing going on that’s pretty darn satisfying. You can get them crunchy or chewy (yay team chewy), and now you can get them BIG.
Yes, this October, Chips Ahoy! is rolling out big, soft cookies that are three times the size of the classic Chips Ahoy! cookies, with chocolate chips that are over four times larger than the chips in the original. What does any of that actually mean? The cookies are about the size of a standard, adult palm. And the chips are slightly bigger than your average Nestle chocolate chip.
But are these new Chips Ahoy! cookies also three to four times as delicious as the originals? We tasted all three new flavors to find out.
- Chips Ahoy! Big Chewy Cookie Chocolate Chip
-
Pros: It is certainly chewy. Like, it’s really chewy and very soft. You do not need teeth to eat this new Chips Ahoy! cookie. And it also tastes like a Chips Ahoy! cookie. If you love that flavor, you’re going to have a great time with this cookie, because you get a lot of it. In the mini Chips Ahoy! cookies there’s more chips than cookie. But there’s more cookie in the big guys, so you really get to enjoy that texture and flavor if that’s your thing. Plus, these new Chips Ahoy! cookies are individually packaged, so you don’t have to buy a whole package of cookies if you’re just looking for a quick sweet treat on a road trip or something.
Cons: Because it’s not totally packed with chocolate chips, the cookie is a bit bland. It could use a bit more salt to make it really satisfying. Or more chocolate chips. Anything, really.

- Chips Ahoy! Big Chewy Cookie Chocolatey Brownie
-
Pros: The chocolate chips taste good. They are rich and creamy and very chocolatey. And, according to those who enjoyed SnackWells Devil’s Food cookies, these cookies taste nearly identical. So, if you have fond memories of noshing on diet cookies as a youth, then you can indulge in those flavors once again.
Cons: This chocolate brownie cookie is much drier and more crumbly than the chocolate chip version. And it’s not super chocolatey. Like the chocolate chip cookie, it’s a bit bland if you’re not enjoying one of the chocolate chips.

- Chips Ahoy! Big Chewy Cookie Chocolatey Caramel
-
Pros: If you love, love, love butterscotch you might be super into this extremely sweet, very butterscotch-y cookie. Unlike the other cookies, there are lots of chips in here. They just happen to taste like butterscotch and not caramel.
Cons: There is nothing caramelly about this cookie. It is pure, super-duper, way-too-sweet-for-me butterscotch. If you have a crazy sweet tooth—like, you think a spoonful of sugar is just a jumping off point for sweetness—you might be able to handle this cookie. But if you’re reasonable about sugar, I think you’ll find these to be aggressively sweet.
