That old phrase “once in a blue moon” is about to get some serious action this weekend. There will be an actual blue moon in the sky on May 31st (the first since 2024). The tricky part? It won’t actually be blue. I guess that’s why Blue Moon beer gets away with also not being blue. If the real thing can’t do it, why do they have to? Well, funnily enough they’re taking steps to rectify that as we speak.

For one weekend only, you’ll be able to get real blue Blue Moon beer!

Blue Moon Beer is bringing a limited-time blue beer to participating bars across the country. Think green beer, but rarer, bolder, and brighter. And more photogenic! Those colors are about to pop! From May 29th through the 31st, participating bars across the country will serve Blue Moon Belgian White Belgian-Style Wheat Ale reimagined for the occasion with a vibrant blue hue.

“We can’t do much about the color of the moon in the sky, but we can do something about the one in your glass. So for one weekend, we’re making Blue Moon, well … actually blue,” said Elizabeth Hitch, VP of Marketing, Above Premium Beer at Molson Coors Beverage Company. “Consider it us making good on a promise the night sky can never quite keep.”

Where to find it:

Participating bars that are serving up the blue Blue Moon beer can be found in the following states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin. Head to bluemoonbrewingcompany.com/en-US/lunarbluemoon to see the full list (each bar seems to only be serving it on a specific day, so make sure you find a good match for location/date).

No bars serving up the blue by you?

Don’t worry, Blue Moon’s still got you sorted. Can’t make it to a bar serving up the blue stuff or just looking to extend the fun at home? You can also enjoy “Bright Side of the Moon,” a specialty cocktail recipe from Blue Moon; this is an easy way to create blue beer with Blue Moon at home. You’re able to find the full recipe on Blue Moon’s website.
