So there I was, perusing the Hershey’s webstore for something I needed to complete an upcoming piece here on Sporked, when I see Reese’s Pieces Caramel Flavored Milk Chocolate Candy. That full title is interesting, considering last time I checked, Reese’s Pieces don’t contain milk chocolate. What’s going on here?
So out of due diligence to journalism and you good people, I took on the Herculean task of eating candy for work. The sacrifices I make, folks. These are Hershey’s Store exclusive, so you’ll need to head to a Chocolate World in person or place an online order to try them for yourself. Are they worth that effort? Read on to find out.
- Reese’s Pieces with Caramel Flavor
-
I can’t believe it: Hershey finally remembered they could do something interesting with Reese’s Pieces besides shove them inside other stuff.
Pros: They’re good. Of course they’re good. It’s caramel-flavored chocolate and peanut butter inside a candy shell coating. The ratio isn’t exactly what I expected, but no one is going to be surprised by the combined flavor profile inside these candies. The form factor of these candies, however…
Cons: They’re too big. You know Peanut M&M’s? These new Reese’s Pieces are about that big, which is a shock considering Reese’s Pieces are usually a little smaller than regular M&M’s. And I really wish there was more peanut butter in these Reese’s candies. There’s only a thin layer of peanut butter between the flavored chocolate center and the candy coating. The caramel flavor becomes overpowering halfway through a small handful. I guess it helps you maintain portion control (silver lining?). Long story short, unless you stumble into a Hershey’s Chocolate World and see these on the shelf, I recommend waiting for M&M’s to create a caramel variant of Peanut Butter M&M’s. This rating feels harsh, but it’s hard to ignore what this candy is versus what it should be.
