“Ahhh, the smell of a freshly poured bowl of cereal” is what I would say if I ever stopped to smell my bowl of cereal. But like most people (I assume), I’ve never done that. And since General Mills just released a line of cereal-scented candles, now I don’t have to.
The new candles come in five classic, nostalgia-inducing cereal scents: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, and Honey Nut Cheerios. The cinnamon-y, the marshmallow-y, the fruity, the chocolatey, and the nutty… They really did cover the five -y’s of the dessert world.
Now, this may sound like the kind of product you can only get by making a TikTok video about being cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, or selling your soul to Count Chocula, but it’s actually super simple. These bad boys are being sold in Target stores everywhere, as we speak! Pretty nifty, huh? I may have to get one for my apartment because I totally use candles on the daily and definitely don’t have a collection of candles I bought because they smelled “sooooo good” just sitting on my table unused and collecting dust. That’s definitely not the case.
This isn’t the first time a food brand has taken the food-scented candle plunge. According to Food and Wine, Campbell’s has made soup candles, Shake Shack has made burger candles, Ikea has made Swedish meatball candles, and McDonald’s released a different candle for every component of the Quarter Pounder (apparently, the combined smell was not the most pleasant).
Hopefully these sweet breakfast scents will evoke the nostalgic experience of eating one of our favorite cereals from childhood, including the delightful aroma. So which one to get? I find myself drawn to Trix and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Trix, if they get that smell right, seems like it could be such a good room scent. And if I get two Cinnamon Toast Crunch candles, I’m curious if one would cannibalize the other. I’ll keep y’all posted!
