Chipotle Is Giving Fans up to $1 Million in Free Food During the Super Bowl

Chipotle is in the spirit of giving in the lead-up to the big game.

In a slick PR move, the Mexican fast-food chain decided that instead of spending an exorbitant amount on a Super Bowl ad, it’s going give fans a chance to get up to $1 million in free food. On Sunday, Feb. 8, after the halftime show and before the third quarter of the game, Chipotle is going to post a one-time 30-second Instagram Reel titled “The Chipotle Realest 30,” with a code. The first 100,000 viewers to text the code to 888222 will receive a free meal.

What do they mean by “meal?”

The qualifying entrées include burritos, burrito bowls, a single order of three tacos, a salad, or a quesadilla (the latter is available only for online orders). The free entrée codes are valid through February 12 and are subject to availability at your local Chipotle. They can only be redeemed at participating restaurants or on online orders placed through the Chipotle app or site.

Why is Chipotle doing this?

The company is taking a stand against AI-generated ads that are likely to dominate this year’s Super Bowl commercials and is focusing on reaching its true fans while highlighting the freshness of its ingredients. “With our real ingredients, we don’t use any artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives on our menu—so when AI shows up in a TV ad after halftime, we’re seizing that one moment to reward fans with what they really want: real food,” Stephanie Perdue, the Interim Chief Marketing Officer of Chipotle, shared in a statement.

Chipotle is also sharing three Game Day Nacho Hacks on its app and site, so you can make the best snacks for your Super Bowl party. This includes two meat-centered Game Day Nacho Hacks, featuring two high-protein cups of adobo chicken or steak, two large bags of chips, two large sides of queso blanco, two large sides of guacamole, and two large sides of two different salsas: roasted chili-corn and tomato. There is also a vegetarian version, which includes two large bags of chips, two large sides of queso blanco, two large sides of guacamole, and two large sides of both salsas.
