Wondering how much a little St. Patrick’s Day action is going to set you back this year? A personal finance website called FinanceBuzz recently broke down the cost of a pint of Guinness in every state. I recently visited Ireland and returned from my trip with a deep love for the Irish dry stout, but I live in California, so will tariffs and the overall rise in the cost of living put a damper on my St. Paddy’s Day fun??

I spoiled that one, but yes, of course, California has the most expensive pint of Guinness
Overall the cost of a pint of Guinness is up over 5% across the country from their 2025 prices. That increase held steady across the board, as both the least and most affordable pints were found in the same states as last year. That’s California ($9.75 in 2026) and West Virginia ($6.15 in 2026), respectively.
Call me naive but I really did expect Hawaii to take this one. Or maybe I just wanted to hope that someone had it worse than us. Not that I wanted that pain to go to Hawaii but someone had to take the crown and I just hoped it wasn’t us for once.
If I can’t make it to West Virginia this year, what other states should I look for a pint in?
The general trend was that the states on either coast were greatly outdone by the states towards the center of the country. The most affordable pints, in order from from the bottom up of the charts, were:
West Virginia ($6.15)
Nebraska ($6.40)
Kansas ($6.70)
Missouri ($6.95)
Alabama ($7.00)
Mississippi ($7.10)
Indiana ($7.15)
South Dakota ($7.15)
Iowa ($7.20)
Montana ($7.20)
On the other side of the chart, working from top down, the most expensive were found in:
California ($9.75)
Washington ($9.66)
Virginia ($9.30)
District of Columbia ($9.10)
Florida ($9.00)
Nevada ($8.90)
Hawaii ($8.85)
Massachusetts ($8.70)
New Jersey ($8.60)
Louisiana ($8.45)
