I’ve been shopping at Costco for a few years now and since the beginning, they’ve sold their bagels in a unique way. They have a few flavors to choose from, but you buy them in two mix-and-match pairs of six for one set price for 12. While the choice of variety is appreciated, I can only imagine the headache this must create for cashiers having to deal with customers only coming up with one 6-pack.

Costco’s solution to the problem? Switch the whole system up.

To combat this, Costco’s shifting their entire bagel buying model. They’re now selling their bagels solely in packs of eight. No mix-and-match needed. No scrambling to the back of the store while you’re checking out to get another set to finish the pair.

Actually, this isn’t the first time Costco’s made this change. Their muffins also used the two-packs-of-six system once upon a time. They made the change to an 8-pack of muffins a few months back and it seems to have worked if they’re extending the change to bagels now.

There’s one subset of Costco customers that are extra happy at the news…

Coincidentally, this also helps single shoppers out, too! Eating 12 bagels on your own before they go bad was quite the feat. Sure, you could have frozen any you don’t get to right away, but you’re already shopping for one at Costco. That freezer’s been filled to the brim for months! No longer. Now you only have to get through eight bagels with a mouth of one. That’s one bagel a day for a week with a few half-bagel snacks thrown in. Much easier to stomach!
