What’s the hottest ticket in town? The gas station at a Costco warehouse. Seriously, I don’t stand in line for bars or restaurants or merch drops, but I will happily wait in line to score some sweet, sweet, cheap, cheap Costco gas—especially with gas prices going bonkers thanks to some stuff that I don’t really want to talk about right now. Anyway. Now, Costco is expanding its gas station footprint with its first ever standalone gas station that’s not attached to a Costco Warehouse. Here are the details.

Where is this Costco gas station?

The first standalone Costco gas station is opening in Southern California. Specifically, it will replace an old Bed, Bath & Beyond in Mission Viejo, a commuter city in Orange County. While there’s no official opening date, the brand plans to open the gas station this June. This new gas station will include 20 fueling dispensers with two pump stations each—that means there’ll be 40 pumps available. And it will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Who can get gas at this new Costco gas station?

Just like the gas stations at Costco warehouses, only Costco members will be able to score gas at the standalone Costco gas station.

What else will be at this Costco gas station?

Just gas. That’s it. No three-packs of Fishwife tuna, no rotisserie chicken, no best chocolate cake we’ve ever had. Just gas.

Where will Costco open a gas station next?

The brand is currently working on another standalone in Hawaii, with plans to open it some time in 2027.

Is Costco gas actually cheaper than other gas?

According to U.S. News, Costco gas is, on average, 10 to 30 cents cheaper a gallon than at other gas stations. And it can be even cheaper, depending on your location. If you have a 14-gallon tank, that means between $1.40 – $5.60 in savings. That’s your next rotisserie chicken, right there!

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
