This Classic Ice Cream Is Now A Soda (Finally)

As was ever thus, we can rely on the soda world to keep things moving. August has been a busy month for soda news: Mountain Dew’s making Spicy Baja Blast (at long last), Jones Soda is dropping a new Fallout soda, and we finally got our hands on 7UP’s new Lemon Lime flavor. Reader, we were not fans. Always a disappointing moment when that happens.

The soda wheel continues to turn, though, and we’re hoping this next release is a little better. We’re getting a new ice cream-flavored drink, and if you want to squeeze the last dregs out of the summer vibe, this one will be for you. 

Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake Cove Soda

Last week, Cove Soda announced that it’s teamed up with Good Humor to release a Strawberry Shortcake flavored soda. This marks the first time Good Humor’s classic ice cream bar flavor has been made drinkable, and this new product practically oozes nostalgia (Cove’s good at that: Its product range has a seriously retro vibe, with cream soda, root beer, and ice pop flavors). Despite this, it’s a very modern beverage: As with Cove’s other products, this drink is sugar-free and prebiotic. 

People are clearly very excited about this new release: Cove Soda’s Instagram post announcing the new flavor has, at latest count, 728 comments, with many of them saying how pumped they are. A lot of the comments have also lamented the fact that this soda won’t be available in Canada – which is an understandable frustration, given that Cove’s a Canadian brand (its origin story is pretty interesting, incidentally: It was started by a pair of brothers who started selling their drinks at farmers’ markets in 2017, before it gained mainstream traction). Instead, Cove offered a giveaway of two cans to 100 Canadian customers, while in the US, its Strawberry Shortcake flavor will be available at Target for a limited time. 

Strawberry Shortcake Hive, Rise Up

It’s been a year of Good Humor’s Strawberry Shortcake stretching its limits. In April, Breyers announced a new Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake frozen dessert, with the ice cream bar transformed into tub form. On the soda side, meanwhile, brands have increasingly embraced nostalgia flavors, many of them ice cream- or ice cream bar-adjacent — and sodas are being turned into ice creams. Basically, everything is now everything else, and you can get whatever you want in any form. Peak 2026.
