It’s been a big week for Kemps, if we do say so ourselves. The dairy brand was the talk of the town (by which I mean, I was writing about it) just yesterday, when we reported on its new ice cream flavor that has us running to the store. Now, a mere 24 hours later, we find ourselves in the very same position – but this time, Kemps is throwing it all the way back, with a new range of retro-inspired ice creams made for a root beer brand. Let’s discuss.

1919 Root Beer x Kemps

Yesterday, @candyhunting revealed that Kemps and 1919 Root Beer have teamed up on five new ice cream flavors, and they all come bathed in nostalgia in various ways. The new flavors are:

  • Frozen Float Swirl: A vanilla base with a root beer-flavored swirl throughout. Perhaps the most straightforward pairing of these two brands right here.
  • Muddy Float: Chocolate ice cream, with the same root beer swirl.
  • Nutty Float: Okay, let’s take it up a notch! Vanilla ice cream, a root beer swirl, and chocolate-covered peanuts. Crunch, fizz, cream. We love to see it.
  • Lemon Dream: We break with the pattern of float-inspired ice creams here for a lemon flavor with a graham cracker swirl. Textural contrast is still very much in play here (as long as it doesn’t get soggy, which is a distinct possibility).
  • Vanilla: There’s an argument to be made here that this one isn’t retro – but what’s more old-school than ice cream?

Now, I should point out that while this ice cream is made by Kemps, it’s a 1919 product and branded as such – Kemps is the churner and the shaker, so to speak. Either way, we want to try them.

I Want To Try Them Too. Where Are They?

@candyhunting reported finding this new line at Hy-Vee, but if you’re not in the Midwest, you might have some trouble. Both brands are proudly Minnesotan and primarily serve Midwestern states, and unless there’s a major shakeup, this will largely be a regional product. There’s a chance it might be available via the 1919 Root Beer website, as many of its items can be ordered online – but ice cream is a little harder to ship. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news; you may just have to make your own root beer float until the line goes national. Worse ways to spend your day, I’m sure.
