It’s no big secret that nostalgia is one of the biggest selling tools that food companies have – but a lot of the time, when an old-school item rears its head once more, it’s been updated in some form or another. Evidence? We’ve plenty of it. You only have to look at Sunny D’s new Hard Purple Stuff, or the new snack from Little Debbie’s that’s inspired by classic Oatmeal Creme Pies, to see how brands jazz up their offerings for a new audience.

Sometimes, though, they keep things truly nostalgic. Such is the case at Cracker Barrel, where you can find Lammes Candies Sherbet Mints, a wafer that truly looks as though it came from another time. Here’s the skinny on these skinny snacks.

Lammes Candies Sherbet Mints

Cracker Barrel may be known for its homestyle food, but it’s also a gift store – and it’s within this store that Lammes Candies Sherbet Mints can be found. A pack of each hand-made candy has around 50 wafers, all decked out in appealing pink, yellow, green, and white pastel shades that make them perfect for tucking away during an Easter hunt (although Lammes also says that they’re “ideal for bridal and baby showers, weddings, and holiday gifting” – so basically, you can give them away any time of the year).

When it comes to nostalgic candy, too, Lammes might have the edge. The Texas-based company has been making candy for over 140 years, and its sweet treats steer well clear of the nuclear-bright options that dominate shelves. Amongst its product selection are pralines, retro chocolate boxes, and taffies, as well as these wafer-thin mints.

The Power of Nostalgia

Cracker Barrel has been selling Lammes Candies Sherbet Mints since 2007, but up until this point they’ve kinda been a well-kept secret. Well, nothing stays out of reach of the internet these days, and everything can be used for content. That was clearly the restaurant’s philosophy when it uploaded an Instagram reel showcasing the wafers, which promptly went viral. In the reel, a Cracker Barrel employee named Debbie talks through the history of Lammes mints and essentially gives us a guided tour of the candy, and people responded with appropriate praise. “If Debbie says to buy sherbet mints, I’m buying sherbet mints,” said a comment which, to this date, has received almost 1,000 likes. We trust you, too, Debbie.

To be honest, we feel like Lammes mints are the perfect thing to go for after you’ve finished with Cracker Barrel’s biscuits and fried chicken. Refreshing? Colorful? Can you throw them around like Frisbees if you get bored? Check, check, check.
