The canned marg market has never been hotter. With the ever-growing popularity of alcoholic ready-to-drink beverages, we’ve seen a lot – and I mean a lot – of canned margaritas entering the world, and a lot of them are pretty good. Which makes sense: While, as a former (and sometimes current) bartender, I’m duty-bound to say that canned margaritas will never compare to the freshly-shaken thing, the drink’s flavor profile lends itself well to transportability and pre-mixing. And they taste damn good when just pulled out of the fridge.

But up until fairly recently, the canned marg space has been largely dominated by new and emerging brands, as opposed to heavy hitters. This year, though, that’s changed. Hot on the heels of Casamigos releasing its bottled margaritas, another major brand has brought out its own version. Here’s what you need to know.
Pack The Cooler, We’re Going To The Beach
The brand in question is… Cuervo! The tequila brand that has roots stretching all the way back to 1758 has finally entered the fray with its Cuervo Canned Cocktails, with four flavors to choose from. Only two of them are margaritas, too. Now available in canned form are:
- Classic Margarita: I mean, how could it not? A lime-forward version of a marg, which has a slight fizz to it.
- Strawberry Margarita: This one goes hard on the berry flavors, but with an undertone of lime. I mean, it is a margarita.
- Paloma: A hit of grapefruit is followed up by – yeah, you know it! – lime, and a tequila finish.
- Pink Lemonade: Maybe the fruitiest of the bunch, Cuervo’s Pink Lemonade is based around raspberries, strawberries, orange, and lemon. And booze.
In its press statement, the brand alluded to the rising appeal of ready-to-drink products in its decision-making. “People are reaching for RTDs now more than ever, so with the new lower-ABV Cuervo Canned Cocktails, we’ve reimagined those same beloved flavors that are already part of our DNA, in a convenient, on-the-go format that makes it easy to sip your favorite cocktails all season long,” said Proximo Spirits’ EVP of Marketing and Innovation, Lander Otegui. Cuervo has absolutely nailed the timing of this release: Summer’s here. The tequilas will be flowing. God, I’m thirsty.
And The Details!
Each canned margarita comes in at 5.9% ABV (which isn’t bad for an RTD, to be honest, although I do prefer a little more punch in mine), and you can get them in single servings, four-can single-flavor packs, or eight-can variety packs, for $2.99, $9.99, and $18.99, respectively. Prices may vary from store to store. The drinks are available at major stores around the country. Get to it!
