Mountain Dew is never shy about bringing out new flavors – and nor is it scared to bring back old ones. So far in 2026, the drinks brand has been busy teasing a new Trolli soda and ramping up for its new Blackberry Citrus flavor, while also unveiling a trio of throwback favorites as part of its new Mountain Dew Variety Pack. There’s always a lot going on at Mtn Dew HQ.

You know the problem with having loads of flavors, though? It’s that for every one you gain, you lose another. As a result, the history of Mountain Dew is littered with discontinued flavors that now feel more distant in the memory than ever, although some of them certainly still have their fair share of fans. Let’s check out some of those old favorites.
Revolution
Mountain Dew Revolution first appeared in 2008 as part of Mountain Dew’s DEWmocracy campaign, which gave customers the chance to pick which option they wanted to be permanent. Revolution was in a line-up with Voltage and Supernova, and it came third, thereby promptly disappearing.
Despite its relatively short existence, this wild berry-flavored drink has retained some admirers. “Pour one out for Revolution,” says a fan on Reddit. In memoriam.
Solar Flare
This Mountain Dew flavor didn’t disappear for good that long ago, but given its slow, almost torturous discontinuation, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s been gone for years. Solar Flare first dropped in 2014 as a 7-Eleven exclusive, and the tropical punch flavor was an immediate hit. In 2015, though, it was said to be discontinued.
But then…it kinda stuck around. Instead of completely disappearing, Solar Flare just became increasingly difficult to find (much like a flare going out, you could say…), and for the next few years, sightings became way more rare. It was finally confirmed as actually discontinued in 2025, over 10 years after it debuted.
Distortion
Another DEWmocracy flavor, Distortion, was a lime-flavored Mountain Dew that was part of 2010’s batch of finalists. When it lost out to White Out, though, its chances of becoming more permanent were slashed – and Diet Distortion, which subsequently faced another public vote, didn’t stick around either.
Distortion reappeared in 2013 as a Taco Bell Freeze flavor, but it was only around for a matter of months. Now, it lives in the Mtn Dew graveyard.
Dewshine
Dewshine’s appeal was in its old-school nature. Instead of coming in a plastic bottle, this citrus flavor came in glass bottles and jugs, with the former coming in four-packs in those cardboard carriers. You know the ones. The old-timey ones.
Dewshine first dropped in 2015, and it made quite a splash at the time. That splash, though, eventually fizzled out into nothing. After limited availability in 2016, it eventually disappeared.
