Once a frozen treat you could only enjoy at Disney while waiting to get into the next show at the Tiki Room, the Dole Whip is now a freezer aisle-staple in not one, not two, but three flavors in full 14oz pints (not just cups like when Dole Whip originally arrived in stores). You’ve got the classic Pineapple and the more recently introduced Mango, and now those flavors are joined by Tropical Guava Passion. Is this brand new Dole Whip flavor worthy of the Dole Whip name? I took to the pint with a spoon to find out.

New Dole Whip Flavor!

Dole Whip Tropical Guava Passion

Pros: The texture is delectable. It’s creamy and smooth without being too soft. It’s just exceedingly scoopable. And it’s definitely tropical. It’s zesty and guava-forward. But it’s not sorbet. Nor is it ice cream. It’s a Whip. It’s somewhere between sorbet and ice cream. And it’s crazy refreshing. I could eat a whole pint, easy. But it’d also be great scooped into a goblet and topped with sparkling wine for a fancy-as-heck grown-up dessert.

Cons: While it’s definitely more guava than passionfruit, it still mostly tastes generically tropical. It’s a good tropical flavor, but it’s not specifically guava-passionfruit. I can see some people saying it’s also too mild. It’s not a super pungent flavor. It’s gentle. That’s a plus for me, but some folks might find it boring. Also, it’s not like a Disney Dole Whip. It’s not soft serve. If that’s what you were hoping for, you’re going to be disappointed. But you can’t put soft serve in a carton. Not yet, at least. Here’s hoping some enterprising scientists are getting to work.

Verdict: Not every new product has to be some groundbreaking innovation. This is simply a good, tropical frozen dessert to break out when the weather warms up. Enjoy it.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
