Wow. Well, isn’t this quite the time to talk about foodborne illness. Technically, there aren’t many new recalls to know about for the past week. Just one company had an official recall. Now, obviously that’s because of the elephant in the room―the Cyclospora parasite outbreak.

As my gift to you, I’ll use this as a de facto rundown of everything we know regarding the parasite and what foods may be contaminated (though it’s not an official recall). I know, I know. How kind of me to do that for you all.
Glutinous Rice Balls ― Peanuts
First thing’s first. Two different types of glutinous rice balls from Kong Huan Corporation have been recalled due to a potential contamination of undeclared peanuts. The recall includes glutinous rice balls with black sesame filling, as well as black and white glutinous rice balls with black sesame filling.
The former variety can be identified by UPC 6908791000053 with a use by dates of 9/22/2027 and 10/19/2027. The black and white variety can be identified by UPC 6908791000084 and a use by date of 10/19/2027. Products were distributed between June 2, 2026 and July 8, 2026 in retail stores in AZ, CA, CO, HI, NJ, NV, OR, TX, WA and nationally online.
Iceberg Lettuce ― Cyclospora Parasite
At the current moment, it’s best believed that shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico at Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia are the causes of the Cyclospora outbreak. However, customers in nearly every state have claimed to have been affected by the outbreak. Safe to say, it’s probably just best to avoid iceberg lettuce for the time being.
Most people infected with Cyclospora develop diarrhea, with frequent bowel movements. Other common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, bloating, increased gas, nausea, and fatigue. Vomiting, body aches, headache, and fever may also be present. If not treated, the illness may lead to dehydration and severe complications that may require higher levels of care. Immunocompromised persons may experience more severe illness of longer duration along with complications requiring close medical attention.
If you have symptoms of cyclosporiasis, contact your health care provider to report symptoms and receive care, especially if you ate shredded iceberg lettuce in the two weeks before you got sick. If you purchased or received food items with shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell at any of these locations, carefully clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that it touched.
FDA’s traceback investigation has identified convergence on a single supplier of iceberg lettuce from Mexico used by Taco Bell locations where sick people ate before becoming ill. FDA is also working with Taco Bell and they have committed to stop using any lettuce from the supplier identified by FDA’s traceback investigation. FDA and state partners are actively investigating the source and scope of the contamination.
Because the investigation remains ongoing, additional implicated brands, restaurants, retailers, or distribution channels may be identified as the investigation continues. The FDA’s advisory will be updated promptly as new information becomes available.
