Fans Begged For This BBQ Sauce To Return (And It Worked)

The worst thing about loving so much is how empty life can seem when it’s ripped away from you. I want to leave this mortal plane at the exact same time as my favorite snacks. If they have to leave, that is. Honestly, knowing they’ll outlive me will give me all the peace I need to pass on. This deep connection obviously makes things tricky when a beloved product is pulled from shelves too soon. What do you do in that situation? If the item in question is the Sheetz Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, you rally the troops.

The Sheets Petition

Passionate pleas from loyal fans on social media, an online petition, and even hand-written letters to the Sheetz family have finally gotten the Mid-Atlantic convenience chain to bring back the sacred sauce. Some of the comments fans have left on Sheetz social media posts over the years―that’s right, years―since it was discontinued include: “Bring back Dr Pepper BBQ, you coward” and “Can you bathe me in Dr Pepper bbq sauce?” (my personal favorite). Sheetz said one Dr. Pepper BBQ superfan has written more than 90 handwritten letters to company executives urging the return of the sauce.

Sheetz made the announcement of the return of the Dr Pepper BBQ sauce by dropping a video on TikTok. You know, where all brands make their big announcements these days. The sauce is described as “the signature cherry-spice notes of Dr Pepper [blended] perfectly with tangy barbecue spices, creating a sauce that’s both savory, sweet and slightly spicy.” People are already taking to the comments to share their thoughts.

What Are Fans Saying?

Some of my favorite comments were “WAR IS OVERRRRRR,” “so do you want my first born child or should I just name my next pet Shnugget? I have literally been making homemade BBQ sauces just to recreate your Dr. Pepper BBQ,” “WHEN??? THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE,” and sadly “Too bad my Sheetz ran out day one.” I guess people are loving having it back on the menu a little too much.

Then there are the many comments now moving on to champion the return of other items. I guess we can’t just bask in the glory for a few seconds before moving onto something new. Most of the comments fighting for a new item to return are backing the jalapeño poppers. I can only hope they don’t have to wait two plus years to get their wish granted, too.
