This Gum Changes Flavors as You Chew It

There might be a lot of chaos and uncertainty in today’s world (and that’s really putting it lightly, guys), but there is a saving grace to having made it to 2026: We get to see foods that were once just the wild dream of a children’s author become reality. Well, kinda. Remember that scene in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” where the kids chewed on three-course dinner gum that changed flavor as you eat it, only for Violet Beauregarde to turn into a giant blueberry? Now, we’re getting an actual gum that changes flavor, courtesy of 5 Gum.

Luckily, though, unless we’re very wrong, we don’t think this one will cause you to transform into produce. But hey. Word’s still out. Here’s what we know.

What is 5 Gum EVOLUTION?

5 Gum EVOLUTION is a first from the brand, and like the Willy Wonka-made version, it does have berry flavors in it (flying close to the sun there, guys!). It’s a Sour & Sweet Berry flavored gum that shifts as you chew it, first going from a tangy, sour kick to a sweeter berry note. Unlike other flavor-shifting gums, this one comes in a stick, instead of containing a liquid center. 5 Gum is usually sugar-free, and this one looks as though it is too. 

5 Gum is very much billing its new gum not just as a snack (although, is gum really a snack?), but as an event in and of itself. “5 gum EVOLUTION isn’t just another flavor; it’s a sensory ride designed for thrill-seekers drawn to the unexpected,” said Mars Snacking North America’s marketing vice president, Maria Urista, in the gum’s press release. “From day one, 5 gum has been on a mission to ‘Stimulate Your Senses’ and EVOLUTION takes that even further – bringing a bold, flavor-changing experience to life that keeps all five senses engaged and delivers a truly dynamic chew.” All five senses, huh? We can’t yet see how sight will be affected by this gum, but we remain open to discussion. 

When Will 5 Gum EVOLUTION Be Available?

Right now! 5 Gum’s new product is in stores nationwide as of yesterday. It’s available in 15-stick packs, for all of your shape-shifting whims.

What Else Is Going On In The Gum World?

Thank you for asking. As it turns out, a fair bit! A few months ago, we saw that Mountain Dew was teasing Baja Blast gum over on Instagram. Sadly, said teasing (which happened back in January, no less) hasn’t come to fruition just yet, but they wouldn’t go back on something like that, would they? 5 Gum has also been busy elsewhere, collaborating with KATSEYE on its Senses Collection, just one of many partnerships that the group has entered into in the food world (I mean, check out their Erewhon smoothie).
