At the start of 2026, the chip world received some big news: Flavor Swaps were on their way. This invention, courtesy of Frito-Lay, saw the brand take some of the most beloved flavors from its snacks and plop them right on top of…its other snacks. The world was subsequently blessed in February with Doritos Cool Ranch on Ruffles, Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream on Doritos, and the particularly good Lay’s Sweet Southern Heat Barbecue on Crunchy Cheetos. It was a good moment to be a snack fan.

And then…they disappeared. Wrenched from our grasp. These snacks were limited-edition from the get-go, but that didn’t stop their exile from the chip world from hurting. The good news, though, is that they might – just MIGHT – be back next year. Here’s what we know.
Frito-Lay Flavor Swaps: What We Know So Far
According to a trusted source, we may well be getting three Flavor Swap drops next year, with one returning flavor and two new ones. Now, straight off the bat, we should mention that this is just a rumor at the moment, and we don’t have any official confirmation from Frito-Lay or PepsiCo – but keep your eyes peeled once the calendar rolls around.
As for what flavors could be dropping, it’s rumored that the Doritos Cool Ranch on Ruffles are gonna be making a comeback. Makes sense, given how much people enjoyed them. Then, two new options could come a-knocking at your door: Word on the street is that we could be getting Fritos Chili Cheese-flavored Doritos, and Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion-flavored Cheetos. We MAY have even seen product images that seem to confirm – or at least allude to – their eventual existence.
And That’s All We Know So Far?
That’s all we know so far about this trio of products, but we’ll also likely see a lot more from Frito-Lay as 2027 rolls around (which probably comes as no surprise, given how prolific its brands are). @snachwithzach recently posted a breakdown of what the company reportedly has planned for 2027, and there are a lot of new snacks that could be on the way, including new Cheetos and Tostitos flavors, a new Ruffles Simply Cheddar & Sour Cream flavor, and a year-long Doritos collab with F1, which will see the chip brand bringing out a couple of different options. As yet, though, these are also unconfirmed by the company – so anything could happen. We wait with bated breath, folks.
