It is a well-known fact that into every person’s life, a little Tart must Pop. It is a slightly less well-known fact that a little over a year ago, Pop-Tarts released Frosted Cinnamon Roll Pop-Tarts Bites and people went crazy for them. Why? Because Frosted Cinnamon Roll was a fan-favorite flavor from roughly 2015 to 2023 when they disappeared from shelves never to be seen or heard from again…er, until they came back as Bites in early 2024…and then again as full-size Frosted Cinnamon Roll Pop-Tarts right now, in late 2024. I really want to know what Pop-Tarts’ strategy was here. Was it supply chain issues? Creating a scarcity mindset? Being a lil breakfast pastry tease?
Regardless, Frosted Cinnamon Roll Pop-Tarts are now back on shelves and we picked up a box so we can tell you once and for all if bringing them back was the right move for Kellogg’s—or if they should’ve just let these roll off into the toaster pastry sunset.
Pros: These smell like a cross between cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting and graham crackers. And they taste pretty much exactly like a cinnamon roll. These are excellent. The filling is a thick, sticky, cinnamon paste, and the icing is a sweet, crackly sheen on top. I see why people were adamant that they be brought back.
Cons: If I’m nitpicking, these could use a little tinge of vanilla or some tanginess in the icing to really sell the homemade cinnamon roll schtick. Also, in typical Pop-Tarts fashion, the tart crust (if it can be called that) itself is a little bland. Then again, when the icing and the filling are as sweet as they are, I’m not so sure a sweeter or more flavorful crust would actually add to the experience or just make these too sweet. These are good Pop-Tart, hot or cold, and if you are at all intrigued I say buy it and experience the warm cinnamon-y hug that is this flavor for yourself.
