Two new Takis flavors have finally dropped: Takis Nacho Xplosion and Chile Limón. When we reported on these a couple months ago, we got a sense of what to expect from each new Takis flavor. Chile Limón seemed like it would be a milder, citrus-forward snack, while Nacho Xplosion promised to redeem Takis’ previous misfire in the nacho department—a flavor that lacked the signature Takis heat fans crave. Now that they’re here, we’ve tasted them both. Let’s Taki-bout it.

- Takis Chile Limón

Pros: With chili peppers and lime, this new Takis flavor is basically a toned-down version of Takis Nitro, but with a stronger, more refreshing lime punch. Honestly, I’m impressed by the lime—it’s zingy, citrusy, and even oddly cooling. I never thought I’d describe a Takis flavor as “refreshing,” but here we are. Summer is right around the corner; I can already picture myself munching on these by the pool on a hot day. (Nice timing, Takis.)
Cons: This is a great execution of a fairly “meh” concept. That pure citric acid gives a nice dopamine hit, but there’s not a whole lot to get excited about. Trying them side-by-side with Nacho Xplosion unfortunately only makes them more forgettable. Pool party aside, I’m probably not picking these up in favor of the classic flavors, but I can definitely understand the appeal for anyone who finds other Takis too spicy.

- Takis Nacho Xplosion
-
Pros: Nacho Xplosion is exactly the kind of excellence I expect from a new Takis flavor. That bold, zesty nacho cheese doesn’t pull any punches. (For once, “explosion” is an accurate snack descriptor.) The cheesiness is bolder and stronger than Doritos, with a spicy queso vibe that gives extra depth and intensity. And hey, don’t just take my word for it: Everyone at the office who tried these loved them. Nacho Xplosion might be one of the best new Takis flavors to be released in a long time.
Cons: I’ll be brave and say it: I think these could have been spicier. The heat is definitely a slow burn. I don’t have an iron stomach by any means, so I personally appreciate the balance here, but I have to speak up on behalf of Takis fans who live and die by Fuego. Maybe as a compromise, Takis could release an even spicier version. For now, though, every Takis fan needs to try these.
