August 2025 was the month of Taylor Swift. She got engaged, she announced a new album—I could go on, but then I might get lost in the memories since August slipped away into a moment in time. But I digress. The most important Taylor happening that took place in August is, indisputably, that we learned our girl likes to bake sourdough. Either that or it was all a perfectly orchestrated Easter egg to softly announce Taylor as the Super Bowl halftime performer next year, since it will be taking place in the Bay Area and the 49ers mascot is Sourdough Sam.

That said, if you are not as deeply online as I am, or you just like to take people at their word (admirable), all we can really learn from this is that Taylor Swift likes baking sourdough. Which inevitably means a large portion of the U.S. population will be getting back into it now, too. What can I say, when she wears the proverbial Army pants and flip-flops, so do we. But just because you want to make sourdough doesn’t mean it has to be a hassle…or a boring color. “What? What do you mean, Jessica? Bread is brown!!” Au contraire, mon frere—Pillsbury Funfetti is releasing a Funfetti Sourdough Bread Mix on September 24 and we could not be more intrigued.

So will Funfetti Sourdough be…sweet? Or just colorful? Would it perfectly match the aesthetic of the Lover album released on August (note the momentous month) 23, 2019?

Here’s what we know: The box will come with sourdough bread mix, a packet of sprinkles, and yeast – they say it is everything you will need to make a Funfetti sourdough loaf. I’ll be honest—it’s sort of unclear whether the bread will be sweet or savory. Pillsbury describes this mix as yielding a loaf that is “equal parts tangy sourdough and sweet celebration, this loaf is unexpected, colorful, and a lot of fun—baked with the artisan texture of sourdough and studded with bursts of rainbow Funfetti sprinkles.” If we can take “sweet celebration” to mean literally sweet, then, yeah, this might be at least a little bit of a sweet loaf, like a cinnamon raisin bread or a panettone. If we are supposed to take it metaphorically, then this may just be salty bread with sprinkles. Basically, we are unsure, but there is only one way to find out, and, oh boy, do we intend to.

If you too are curious, you can only get this mix online at Funfetti.com when it becomes available for preorder on September 24 at noon ET. Each box costs $9.99, shipping is free, and they only made 1,500 boxes of the stuff, so if you (like me) want to enter your Funfetti sourdough era, you’d better treat this like Taylor Swift Concert tickets and get your mouse over that refresh button right as the clock strikes 12.
