Häagen-Dazs dazs it again, “it” being introducing unique, new ice cream flavors, this batch inspired by popular street foods from around the world. “Which street foods?” you ask. “Elote? Hot dogs on a stick?” No, for the most part, Haägen-Dazs is simply doing what it dazs best: Making sweet treats into another sweet treat.
Here’s what they’re churning up: a New York-style Black & White cookie flavor, a Dulce de Leche Churro flavor, a Coffee Chocolate Brownie flavor, a Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel flavor, and a Summer Berry Cake Pop flavor. The ice cream bars come in Summer Berry Waffle, Dulce de Leche Churro, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel.
This is honestly such a great idea! It’s kind of like L.A.’s Wanderlust Creamery, which makes ice creams inspired by travel, but at a slightly lower price point and nationwide availability. But who knows—maybe these delicious-sounding city-themed concoctions will do well and Häagen-Dazs will branch out to even more countries’ favorite desserty street foods. I’d love to see them do a halo-halo ice cream, an ube taiyaki ice cream, a saffron and rose ice cream, a pandan egg waffle ice cream, or a chai ice cream of some kind. I just really want Häagen Dazs to help me travel the world on a budget without having to go anywhere but the grocery store. Honestly, going to the grocery store a bunch and not having to pay for any plane tickets? That’s my ideal vacay.
But wait! There’s more! this isn’t just an in-store release. The brand is also staging a pop-up experience in Brooklyn on April 20 called “Rose & Reuben’s.” The Häagen-Dazs team and the artist who designed the funky-fresh packaging for these City Sweets ice creams are teaming up to create a classic-looking New York Bodega—from the outside, that is. The inside will be decked out in Haägen-Dazs décor and, presumably, lots of ice cream.
Also (because I don’t think I stressed this enough) they have a summer berry waffle ice cream bar. When you think about it, that’s like an ice cream cone on a stick. That’s like a street food version of a street food which is so ridiculously meta I may just have to try it. I need to know if it tastes like a deconstructed and then reconstructed ice cream cone. But don’t worry, once I try it, I’ll definitely let y’all know if it dazs.
