Hot Pockets are, of course, primarily savory snacks: Its best flavors go big on saltiness, cheesiness, and meatiness, and we wouldn’t want that to change any time soon. However, the shape of a Hot Pocket is also a natural fit for sweet fillings – and handheld apple pies are back in fashion. Last month, Burger King brought back its Apple Cinnamon Pie (which we subsequently named one of the best fast food products we’ve tried this year), and now, Hot Pockets is jumping back into the world of sugar and spice with its new Gooey Apple Pie flavor.

And guess what? They’ve already been spotted in stores. Let’s go.
Sick of Burning Your Mouth on a McDonald’s Apple Pie? Try Burning It on a Hot Pocket Apple Pie Instead
We’ve learned about the arrival of Hot Pockets Snack Breaks Gooey Apple Pies via @candyhunting, who reported on their appearance in the frozen aisle. So far, they’ve been spotted at Publix and Food Lion, but we can likely expect them to show up elsewhere pretty soon.
On the box, Hot Pockets promises a cinnamon-inflected apple pie filling “in a cinnamon sugar crust,” which looks almost, almost identical to a McDonald’s or Burger King apple pie. You get two “sandwiches” per pack. These will hopefully be a good compromise for when you just don’t have the energy or inclination to go to your local drive-thru, but that’s only if they’re any good – and the word’s still out on that one, given that they’ve only just arrived.
Haven’t They Done This Before?
In the comment section of @candyhunting’s post, a couple of folks questioned why Hot Pockets hasn’t done this before. Surely, its product is absolutely perfect for sweet fillings as well as savory ones, and a handheld apple pie is a natural fit, right?
Well, it has done it before. Hot Pockets has flirted with sweet options, and particularly apple pie options, a couple of times in the past. It did so most recently with its Sweet Treats Cinnamon Roll and Apple Cinnamon flavors, which were around about a half-decade ago. The latter of those products looks like a dead ringer to the new Gooey Apple Pies, and it’s unclear how much it’s rejigged the recipe, if at all. Given that these Hot Pockets got a fairly muted response from reviewers last time, though, we have our fingers crossed that it’s done a little bit of soul-searching and has figured out how to jazz them up for a new audience. These could also well be limited-time items, so if you’re keen, get them pronto.
