Ever since Chipotle stopped offering their margaritas in 2020, fans never really gave up the idea that they may return someday. The social media campaigns of dedicated Chipotle fans did not go unnoticed by the brand. And just this past weekend, Chipotle has turned to their own social media accounts to start teasing the idea that they are listening to the desire of its patrons regarding their margaritas.

What started with a couple of Instagram slides about how Chipotle did in fact used to have margaritas in their restaurants quickly turned into teasers of the spooky margarita campaign that they have been concocting behind the scenes. Now fans can know the truth of it: the margarita is back at Chipotle. And, while you’re probably just as excited as we are, we will let you know right up front that there’s a pretty significant catch to this along awaited return. Let’s get into it.

Taking “Participating Locations” To New Heights

While we’re definitely super amped for this exciting announcement to come from Chipotle, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. You see, the return of the margarita is very conditional. Chipotle is bringing the margarita back from the dead through “The Summon the Spirits Tour” where they are “bringing Chipotle Margaritas back for a good time, not a long time.”

The tour will begin in October, and it will be available in one city on the Friday and Saturday of each weekend in October. The tour will start on the first Friday of October in Denver, Colorado where chipotle was founded. The margaritas will only be six dollars, but the pop-up experience will offer much more than you would expect for the six dollars. Each pop-up margarita bar will have Halloween decorations, interactive experiences, and opportunities for prizes from the Chipotle brand.

After the tour hits Colorado, it will be in New York the following weekend. Naturally, the tour will swing by the birthplace of the frozen margarita machine in Dallas, Texas next on October 16 and 17. Starting October 23 the margarita pop-up will hit Los Angeles to see the stars of Hollywood, and the tour will finish out in America’s most haunted city New Orleans on Halloweekend.

Back To Basics

To be honest, while we’re very excited for this announcement to be made for one of the most festive months of the year, it does devastate us just to hear that this announcement didn’t come with a much broader scope. At the end of the day, we can only hope that the success of this pop-up might lead to the permanent return of the Chipotle Margaritas to their menu. But I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

For anyone that doesn’t remember the days of Chipotle Margaritas past, let me enlighten you as to the quality of the drinks. Chipotle Margaritas have always been made with just five ingredients: premium tequila, triple sec, citrus, juice, agave, and a wedge of lime. For only six dollars, it’s impressive.

The Return Of Booritos

As part of this exciting announcement, Chipotle made sure to emphasize the fact that this touring margarita campaign is not going to hinder the annual Boorito tradition at their restaurants. Same as always, Halloween will see an in-restaurant entrée offer, although further details on how we can engage with it are still yet to be announced by the company.
