This Fan-Favorite Burger Is Returning to Jack in the Box Menus

Jack in the Box has always felt like a bit of an underdog to me. The plucky burger chain is by no means small—it’s got thousands of locations around the country—but it’s just never managed to compete with the hulking giants that are McDonald’s and Burger King. It’s a shame, because they do actually have some fun stuff on their menu (and we admire any burger chain that also has egg rolls on its menu. It’s pretty out there, and we respect it).

This February, though, Jack in the Box is hoping to attract a little more attention than usual, with the return of its Hot Mess Burger, after a long 13 years of absence, and as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations. Didn’t try it the first time? Now’s your chance.

Beef, White Sauce, and Onion Rings… It’s a Match Made in Heaven

This sandwich is a Hot Mess by name, and honestly, a Hot Mess by nature—but it’s no less delish for that fact. Jack in the Box’s burger combines one of its all-beef patties with crispy onion rings, shredded Pepper Jack, and “white sauce,” then tops the combo with jalapeños and tucks it all between slices of toasted sourdough. This thing is impossible to eat without getting through a pack of napkins, folks, but that’s sort of the fun of it. Plus, if you’re in the market for making even more mess, its Hot Mess Double Cheeseburger amps things up with an extra patty.

The Hot Mess Burger made a big splash the first time it was released back in 2013, and it’s fair to say that customers are excited that it’s on its way back to stores (although some of them are predicting that it’s gonna be a little more expensive than last time around—inflation comes for us all). This time, you can get it in a Hot Mess Munchie Meal, with the sandwich coming tucked in a box with Jack in the Box’s curly fries, two of its tacos, and a drink. Oh, and it also comes with a limited-edition Meat Riot Antenna Ball. Perfect for spotting your car after a round of burgers.
