Jack in the Box Just Launched Simpsons’ Krusty Burgers, Collectible Cups, And More

Last year, I spent an irresponsible amount of my freelance food-writing money on an 8-day theme park tour across Orlando, in no small part because of rumors about the inevitable destruction of the “Springfield” section of Universal Studios Florida. I didn’t know if I’d have another opportunity to eat the second-best theme park food on earth: Springfield’s Fast Food Boulevard. This thematic food court is packed with quick-service restaurants straight out of The Simpsons. Basically, I spent two months’ wages to enjoy a Krusty Burger and a Flaming Moe. (It was totally worth it.)

If only I’d known I could feast upon authentic Springfieldian cuisine a scant 15 months later thanks to the good folks at Jack in the Box. Starting this month, the ever-innovative burger-taco-chicken fast-foodery has launched an entire menu inspired by the animated sitcom’s annual “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween specials. The centerpiece of this meal, the customizable Munchie Meal of Horror, is packed with both food and the most important part of any fast-food collaboration… one of six collectibles.

What’s in the Munchie Meal of Horror?

This spooky twist on the standard Jack in the Box meal lets you choose between a Double Krusty Burger of Terror or a Double Chicken Sandwich of Terror. Along with your terrifying entree, you get two tacos, seasoned curly fries (seasoned with what? Terror.), and a drink. This collaboration isn’t just scary cartoon characters and color schemes; every sandwich in this promotion comes on a new Krusty Burger-inspired sesame seed bun and is slathered in a new “Spooky Simpsons” smoky barbecue ketchup.

Every Munchie Meal of Horror also comes with one of six glow-in-the-dark cups featuring iconic Treehouse of Horror characters like Hugo (not to be confused with Bart), Bart’s evil/good Krusty the Clown toy, Kang and Kodos, a Homer-in-the-Box, and more. As a king-size Simpsons dork, I’m pleasantly surprised by the range of Treehouse of Horror callbacks in these cups.

What else is on Jack in the Box’s Simpsons Treehouse of Horror menu?

In addition to those Munchie Meals of Terror, Jack is also offering four lighter meals for folks lacking a Homer-sized appetite: Krusty Burger of Terror, Double Krusty Burger of Terror, Triple Krusty Burger of Terror, and Double Chicken Sandwich of Terror. These meals come with fries and a (non-collectible) drink, meaning the difference between the Munchie Meals and these “smaller” meals is really just two tacos and a collectible cup. (“But it’s got a collectible cup!”, I hear in Smithers’ voice.)

Whether you go full Munchie Meal or not, Jack in the Box will also bring you love in the form of donuts. The new Forbidden D’oh!nut Holes are dusted with cinnamon sugar and topped with the show’s classic pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles.

While I’d love to see a non-spooky Simpsons meal at a fast-food chain a little closer to me, I certainly appreciate the attention to detail in Jack in the Box’s first Simpsons collaboration. Now if we can just get someone to start selling Homer’s Patented Space-Age Out-Of-This-World Moon Waffles…
