Jimmy John’s Is Selling A Giant Bucket Of Pickles To Eat With Your Smut

On October 1st, the sandwich chain is launching Swicy Jimmy Pickle Bites, a sweet-and-spicy take on its signature pickles that comes in a 48-ounce collectible bucket. The idea is to bring it along for fall movie nights, which according to Jimmy John’s is the season for “spicy books & steamy movies.”

I don’t know when pickles became the official snack of smut, but I’m willing to hear them out.

What’s In The Jimmy John’s Pickle Bucket?

Swicy Jimmy Pickle Bites are thick-cut slices of Jimmy John’s pickles sitting in a new sweet-and-spicy brine developed specifically for the chain.

This isn’t the first time Jimmy John’s has decided the pickle deserves more than its usual supporting role alongside a sandwich. The chain has sold whole pickles and Picklewich sandwiches before, but putting 48 ounces of them in a bucket does feel like the natural crescendo of all that pickle enthusiasm. There’s nowhere really left to go from here. Pickle keg, maybe.

And there are a lot of them. Forty-eight ounces is an aggressive amount of pickle.

Jimmy John’s is encouraging people to share the bucket during movie nights instead of reaching for popcorn. Pickles don’t get stuck in your teeth. You don’t have to spend ten minutes digging around for the one piece with a deliciously unreasonable amount of butter on it. You will have a container of pickle juice on your lap in the dark, but I suppose that’s the price of innovation.

Then there’s the “spicy books” suggestion. One hand on the book, one hand repeatedly disappearing into a bucket of wet pickles. I’m struggling to picture this looking seductive, but maybe I’ve been reading the wrong books.

Jimmy John’s is also calling the bucket collectible, so popcorn buckets haven’t been completely pushed out of the movie-night equation. They’ve just been filled with brine.

And considering movie theaters have spent the past few years putting popcorn in everything from light-up character heads to miniature vehicles, a plain old bucket filled with pickles almost seems restrained. Almost.

Where Can You Get The Jimmy John’s Pickle Bucket?

The Swicy Jimmy Pickle Bites will be available starting October 1st at select Jimmy John’s restaurants while supplies last.

And this one really does mean select. The buckets are coming to participating locations in cities including New York City, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin, Denver, Tampa, Indianapolis, and Salt Lake City, among others. So check before turning up at your local Jimmy John’s expecting several pounds of pickles.

Jimmy John’s hasn’t announced a price for the bucket yet, so we don’t know how much money separates wanting three pounds of pickles from owning three pounds of pickles.

Once you’ve crossed that threshold and eaten all 48 ounces, you’re left with the collectible bucket. Use it for cleaning supplies. Loose change. Popcorn, if you’re feeling nostalgic.
