Kahlua knows you’re using it to spike your Dunkin’ coffee on those work-from-home days, so they’ve gone ahead and partnered with Dunkin’ to make a new caramel-flavored Kahula. So you can make your own boozy version of a Dunkin’ Caramel Swirl in your very own kitchen. But is it any good? I snagged a bottle and sipped some at my desk to find out.
Pros: It’s sweet. It’s creamy. It’s for sure caramely—not in a fancy, salted caramel kind of way but in that coffee house caramel syrup kind of way. It tastes like a more mellow, caramel-flavored Kahlua. Sound good? You’ll like it. I appreciate that it isn’t so sweet that you can’t sip it solo. That said, this isn’t Fernet Branca. You do have to like and want sweet stuff to enjoy a glassful.
Cons: I’d like a bit more flavor that says, “Dunkin’.” While it has the same level of coffee flavor as classic Kahlua, I wish it would have more coffee flavor to connect it to the brand. That said, a standard Dunkin’ coffee (pale with cream and sweet as heck) doesn’t really taste like coffee either. So nevermind, I guess!
Verdict: If you’re a fan of creamy after dinner tipples, this new Kahlua is worth a try. And I definitely think it’d be a real hit stirred into cold brew.
Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients.
Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it.
What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now).
Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test!
Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
