You can’t always pinpoint the moment the world changes forever. One day, we were all elbow deep in our boxes of breakfast cereal, rooting around for whatever treasure was inside. The next, BAM, no more toys in cereal boxes. Honestly, it’s bad enough that young people these days have to deal with social media and AI and a rapidly warming planet—and they don’t even get some plastic junk to play with while they eat their morning bowl of Froot Loops? Well, Kellogg’s is fixing that…not AI or social media or planet death, but the toy situation.

Yep, Kellogg’s is putting toys back in their cereal boxes for the first time in more than a decade! But which cereals?

The lineup is pretty ideal, tbh—and I think most kids will agree. The cereals that will be rolling out with goodies inside are Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Mini-Wheats, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, and Cocoa Loops. (Fun fact: I didn’t even know Cocoa Loops existed.) Keep an eye out for all of these in specially marked boxes come April 26, which is when the rollout is set to begin.

What are the toys?

Well, Kellogg’s hasn’t been totally clear on that. This whole thing is a promo for Toy Story 5—which is heading to theaters on June 19, yay—so some of the items are definitely Toy Story-themed, but not all of them are “toys” exactly. Some boxes will have “classic in-box toys,” but others will have little collectibles, including Toy Story 5 trading cards and Toy Story 5 spoons that look like Woody, Buzz, and Jessie (if Woody, Buzz, and Jessie were spoons).

And listen, I know more plastic junk isn’t exactly what we need on a withering planet, but we need our little treats once in a while, don’t we? This one’s for the kids!

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
