You’ve probably seen Kevin’s meals in your local freezer aisle—you’ve definitely seen them if you shop at Costco. And you’ve probably tried one or two if you have specific dietary needs. But you most likely haven’t tried 17 Kevin’s meals in search of the best Kevin’s meals. I did, though.

Before we jump into the ranking of the top Kevin’s frozen meals you should be eating, let’s just quickly go over what Kevin’s Natural Foods is all about. It all began with Kevin McCray (the titular Kevin of Kevin’s meals) who struggled with an autoimmune disease in his 20s. Then he started eating a “clean diet” with very little sugar and lots of whole foods, and everything turned around. So he decided to try to help others by making a line of “clean” foods and meals. Kevin’s meals are paleo and keto-certified. They’re made without any refined sugar. They’re gluten-free and soy-free. And the meat comes from animals raised without hormones or antibiotics.

Kevin’s makes soups, sides, sauces, and more. But, for this taste test, we stuck to Kevin’s frozen meals and meats. Which ones are worth buying? Read on for the top nine Kevin’s meals, ranked.

Kevin's Natural Foods Beef Stroganoff

Best Strange But Good

Kevin’s Natural Foods Beef Stroganoff

Many of Kevin’s frozen meals are made with coconut. The company uses it as a dairy substitute in lots and lots of foods. Sometimes it doesn’t work (the Parmesan Basil Chicken was a particularly tough sell for me), sometimes it’s delicious (we’ll talk about the Coconut Curry in a bit), and sometimes it’s successful even though it shouldn’t be. Such is the case with this stroganoff. Stroganoff should not taste like coconut. But if you banish the concept of stroganoff from your mind, you’ll enjoy the creamy, savory, and, yes, coconutty sauce. The real stars are the cauliflower noodles, which are thick, tasty approximations of egg noodles. The beef is plentiful, but it’s a bit tough. But you’re here for the noods, anyway.

Kevin's Natural Foods Teriyaki Style Chicken

Best Takeout Style

Kevin’s Natural Foods Teriyaki Style Chicken

This saucy chicken desperately needs a bed of something—brown rice, cauliflower rice, even just some steamed broccoli—because the sauce is super salty. But the chicken is tender and the sauce does taste good in that Chinese takeout kind of way. There’s a better Kevin’s chicken entree on this list, but if you’re in the mood for that kind of teriyaki, this is an easy, allergen-friendly protein around which to center a meal.

Kevin's Natural Foods Beef Bolognese

Best Meaty Pasta

Kevin’s Natural Foods Beef Bolognese

This gluten-free pasta meal is a comforting, cozy, perfectly standard microwaveable meal. And sometimes that’s all you really need. The gluten-free noodles aren’t quite as good as they are in the stroganoff—they’re really light and practically disintegrate in your mouth. But the sauce is richly tomatoey and super meaty. It would be especially good if you doused it all in grated parmesan.

Kevin's Natural Foods Savory Mushroom Chicken

Best Rice

Kevin’s Natural Foods Savory Mushroom Chicken

The highlight of his meal is the rice. It’s infused with umami-rich mushroom flavor. And you get a lot of good mushroom chunks in the mix, too. The chicken itself is dry AF—more sauce, please! But if you’re a mushroom-lover, Kevin made this one just for you.

Kevin's Natural Foods Chicken Piccata

Best Pasta for a Crowd

Kevin’s Natural Foods Chicken Piccata

We’re back to good noodles. Seriously, the gluten free cauliflower noodles in this meal are so good you can barely tell they’re cauliflower noodles. The sauce is smooth and bright and really tangy. And, yes, it’s a little bit coconutty, too, which makes it taste a little bit like a “diet” meal. But it’s easy to ignore thanks to the acidic punch. My main quibble? The chicken chunks are huge. They need to be cut up. If I’m microwaving some Kevin’s frozen meals for dinner, I’m not breaking out the knives.

Kevin's Natural Foods Chicken Burrito Bowl

Best Desk Lunch

Kevin’s Natural Foods Chicken Burrito Bowl

This isn’t a substitute for a Chipotle bowl, but it’s a totally great start. A mix of chicken, chipotle sauce, rice, cheese, and bell peppers, it tastes like Spanish rice pilaf with an extra kick of smoky flavor. The rice is cooked really well—not mushy at all. And the pepper strips are big enough to actually add texture and flavor. On its own, it’s A-OK. But it’s better as a base for customization. Try topping it with Greek yogurt and some avocado, or tossing some beans into the mix.

Kevin's Natural Foods Roasted Tomato Chicken Pasta

Best Pasta

Kevin’s Natural Foods Roasted Tomato Chicken Pasta

This is the best of all the Kevin’s pasta meals. The tomato sauce is savory and spicy. It blissfully doesn’t taste like coconut because the only coconut in the ingredients is coconut sugar. The wide, wavy noodles are impressively springy for gluten free noodles. And the zucchini chunks stay pretty firm. The chicken is…totally fine. It tastes like chicken and that’s the best you can hope for in a frozen meal. I’d gobble this up for lunch.

Kevin's Natural Foods Cilantro Lime Chicken

Best Chicken

Kevin’s Natural Foods Cilantro Lime Chicken

If you’re just looking for an easy, pre-sauced protein to cast in the starring role at dinner, the Cilantro Lime Chicken is the winner by far. The chicken is tender. The sauce is limey and cilantro-y. And it definitely has a kick but it’s a mild kick. It’s described as being chicken in a chimichurri sauce, but it leans more salsa verde. Whatever it is, I dig it. Luckily, there’s a lot of it. I’d use this as a protein for burrito bowls or wraps or taco salads.

Kevin's Natural Foods Thai-Style Coconut Chicken Bowl

Best of the Best

Kevin’s Natural Foods Thai-Style Coconut Chicken Bowl

Out of all the Kevin’s chicken meals we tasted, this was the one I kept coming back to. It’s the best. It’s made with cauliflower rice that comes out just right—it’s not a total sog-fest! The curry flavor is pretty good—it’s obviously coconutty, but it’s also a little bit tangy with a hint of spice. And while the chicken is a bit tough, there are lots of good veggies in the mix. It’s a full, balanced meal—a perfect desk lunch. If you’re just starting on your Kevin’s meals journey, start with this one.
