You know what, Krispy Kreme? We respect the hustle. Even if the hustle is slightly left-field sometimes. The last few months have been typically busy for the donut chain, and it’s spent a lot of that time conceiving new, slightly wacky offers like its space-themed Oreo donut. Although it’s also kept things classic (like with the return of its Strawberry Original Glazed donut, which lands today), it just can’t be tamed. This place will make donuts you won’t expect.

We bring you the latest evidence we have of that statement, which is that Krispy Kreme has just collaborated with SpongeBob SquarePants to release a line of cartoon-themed donuts, which are currently only available in the Philippines. The rest of us will have to admire them from afar. Here’s the deal.
A Donut In The Shape Of A Krabby Patty? We Never Thought This Day Would Come…
Well, it has come. And we need to talk about it. Instagram snack lord @snackolator dropped the news of the Krispy Kreme x SpongeBob collab over on the photo-sharing app, and with it, pictures of all of the donuts in the collection. And what a collection. We’ve got a SpongeBob-shaped donut, a Patrick Star one, a Squidward donut, one in the shape of Gary the Snail, one that looks almost eerily like a Krabby Patty, and one in the formation of SpongeBob’s Pineapple House. What a world we live in.
We have to be honest: If the promo art is anything to go by, Krispy Kreme has absolutely nailed it with these. The donuts really do look like the cartoon. As for their individual flavors, that’s less clear – but it seems as though you get one of each donut per box. We can see these donuts being an absolute smash at birthday parties.
US Customers Are…Less Than Pleased
Although the news of this collaboration was greeted with joy in the comment section of @snackolator’s post, some customers weren’t best pleased with Krispy Kreme’s decision to keep this one from landing Stateside. “Why do you keep preventing the good collabs from being in the US?” said one comment, with another saying, “Let me go cry in the corner because Krispy Kreme in America could never.” A further comment asked whether these donuts would be available in UK stores, which speaks to my own interests as a Brit – but so far, no dice.
For now, US customers will have to make do with all the other SpongeBob food collabs that have landed in the country. A few months ago, we reviewed SpongeBob’s new instant ramen, which we found to be largely pretty good. A new SpongeBob cereal also dropped late last year, and it’s still very much available at stores like Walmart. So there’s still much cartoon-themed fun to be had!
