Fast food chains have been incorporating self-service processes for a minute now, but this year, it feels like that push has ramped up considerably. 2026 has seen an even greater movement towards self-service kiosk use from the likes of Starbucks, while White Castle has been building its burger vending machine roster after an initial launch in February.

Now, Little Caesars is the latest to expand into a self-service mindset. In a move that feels like a sign of the times (and not necessarily in a way that everyone loves), the pizza chain has recently launched 100% self-service restaurants in two Midwestern states. Here’s what we know.

Like Your Pizza From A Hole In The Wall?

At the end of April, Little Caesars launched its second self-service location in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, following an initial opening of a unit in Rockford, Illinois, in November 2025. At both locations, customers can order their pizzas via an app or through a self-service kiosk, and their food will then be made in the kitchen as usual (with around 30 people employed at the Rockford location). However, it won’t be handed to you: Instead, you grab it from a pizza dispensing locker.

The idea with this new concept is that Little Caesars is trying to embrace a modern customer experience, which it also previously did with its embrace of drone delivery. This concept still feels like it’s in an initial testing stage, but the opening of a second location indicates that Little Caesars is happy with how things have gone so far. If the restaurant were to adopt the model nationwide, it could save them around $400 million in labor costs.

And…Is That A Good Thing?

I mean, for Little Caesars’ profit margins, sure. But a push towards more automated processes and a reduction in labor costs is naturally accompanied by a smaller workforce – and essentially, this move means there are fewer jobs to go around. Needless to say, people aren’t best pleased about this. “Just one of many ways people are put out of jobs. Ridiculous,” said one person on LinkedIn in response to a post about the news from Derrick Bell Sr. Another stated, “I hate places that do this. I guess I won’t be going there.”

So, while this may create a more direct way to order pizza for customers, we also have to ask: Is it actually what people want? So far, it doesn’t seem like a universal win in the court of public opinion.
