Someone looked at a bowl of Lucky Charms and thought, “This should be a taco.” That someone was Chain, and the results are hard to argue with.

Chain, the restaurant/pop-up concept from B.J. Novak with a chef lineup including Roy Choi, Mason Hereford, Calvin Eng, and Mei Lin, has teamed up with General Mills to turn seven classic cereals into elaborate desserts and drinks. They’re rolling out through Chain’s “Snack Lab,” a test kitchen for limited-edition concepts, and they take familiar breakfast cereals somewhere they were never meant to go.
Before you get too excited, one important catch: this is a very specific, very limited situation. More on that in a second. First, the food.
The Cereal Creations
Seven cereals got the treatment, and the descriptions are a lot. In the best way.
The Lucky Charms Taco Frío is a vanilla waffle taco shell filled with Lucky Charms cereal-milk ice cream, marshmallow fluff, rainbow marshmallow pieces, and white chocolate crunch, dipped in a white chocolate shell and dusted with Lucky Charms powder.
The Cinnamon Toast Crunch Tiramisu layers espresso-soaked cinnamon sponge, mascarpone cream, and cereal crunch, finished with cinnamon-cocoa dust and a touch of flaky salt―an upscale take on the box.
The Reese’s Puffs Churros come as three hot churros with hot fudge, peanut butter, cereal-milk icing, chocolate sauce, and a Reese’s Puffs crumble.
The Ice Cream Cookie Crisp-wich sandwiches malted vanilla cereal-milk ice cream between two oversized Cookie Crisp cookies, which is essentially cookies and milk turned into an ice cream sandwich.
Rounding it out is a Golden Grahams Toasted S’Mores Bar (a brown-butter cereal treat with toasted marshmallow, ganache, and brûléed marshmallow fluff), a Honey Nut Cheerios Matcha Cloud (matcha over honey cereal milk with salted honey cold foam), and a Trix Berry Swirl Slush (raspberry-orange creamsicle slush with Trix cereal-milk foam and rainbow cereal brittle).
Every single one uses “cereal-flavored milk” as a building block, which is a clever way to bottle that leftover-milk-at-the-bottom-of-the-bowl flavor everyone loves.
The Catch: You Have To Be In LA
Here’s the part that’ll deflate anyone who doesn’t live in Southern California. These aren’t hitting grocery stores or a nationwide chain. Chain is a physical pop-up, and the cereal lineup is part of a six-month residency launching September 2nd at Westfield Topanga Mall in Los Angeles.
So unless you’re in LA (or willing to travel to a mall for cereal tiramisu, no judgment) this is a look-don’t-taste situation for most of the country.
The residency will also rotate through other limited drops and seasonal activations over its six-month run, alongside a regular menu from the chef lineup. So the cereal desserts are a kickoff, not the whole show.
The short version of it all is that seven childhood cereals have been turned into wildly elaborate desserts, they look incredible, and they’re stuck in one LA mall for the next six months. If you’re nearby, lucky you. If not, we can admire from afar and wonder what cereal tiramisu tastes like.
