Our Honest Review of Kraft’s New Line of ‘Creamy Sauces’ (aka, Kraft Aiolis)  

Kraft is kicking off summer with five new creamy Kraft dipping sauces to pair with all your favorite BBQ meats and fried foods. This line of “Kraft Creamy Sauces” includes a new buffalo mayo (yes, they now have another buffalo mayo—more on that later), alongside four other new Kraft aiolis: chipotle, garlic, hickory bacon, and a mayo-based burger sauce. Will they be as fancy as the term “aioli” implies they should be? (Spoiler: Not really, no. But they’re still pretty yummy!) 

Also, I wanna give a quick shout out to Kraft’s brand design team: These new Kraft sauces actually mark the first official redesign of their logo in ten years. Which, hey, cool stuff! But I’m actually more obsessed with the packaging here—each Kraft aioli displays the perfect food to go with its designated mayo flavor. Seriously, just looking at the labels made me so hungry. Give those designers a raise, stat. Anyway…onto the reviews!

Kraft Chipotle Aioli

Kraft Chipotle Aioli

Unsurprisingly, given the picture on the bottle, this smoky Kraft Chipotle Aioli would be heavenly on fried onion rings. Someone take me to Outback, because I can taste the Bloomin’ Onion from here. 

Pros: The heat is pretty balanced—it’s not too strong since it’s offset by the creamy mayo, but it’s decently kicky nonetheless. The consistency on all of these Kraft aiolis is pretty much the same (with one notable exception): smooth, thick, and creamy, with a satisfying thickness that’s similar to Kewpie mayo. It’s highly, highly addictive; I can totally see what Kraft was going for here with this creamy sauce line.

Cons: Is this an artisan chipotle dipping sauce? No. Like all of the Kraft aiolis on this list, this is a simple, thick, well-rounded aioli that’s highly palatable to the average consumer. It’s not art. It’s just Kraft (a slogan they think is punny, and I encourage everyone to take much more literally).

Kraft Smoky Hickory Bacon Flavored Aioli

The heat makes us lazy, and that’s okay. When you just don’t feel like frying up some bacon to add to your burger, this bacon-flavored Kraft aioli will absolutely come to the rescue.

Pros: They totally captured a bold hickory bacon flavor here. Specifically, this carries the essence of bacon bits. (I suppose this could just be a psychological thing from all the clam chowder I’ve eaten over the years, but I have to speak my truth.) It’s yummy! 

Cons: One wonders if a bacon aioli is versatile enough to buy a whole bottle of and keep in your fridge. Also, I think it could do with a little more smoke, a little less sweet. Especially if you need ketchup on your burger, this Kraft aioli might make the flavor too sweet overall. But if you’re not sensitive to that—or hey, prefer it—then congrats, you’re in the clear.

This is very similar to the J.L. Kraft Burger sauce we ranked pretty highly among other bangin’ burger sauces—only thanks to that heavy mayo, this is much thicker. (And that just means there’s more to love, right?)

Pros: Among the new creamy Kraft aiolis, this new burger sauce is the exception to the consistency rule. Mixed with mustard seeds and visible spices, this little guy has actual texture going for it. The bold mustard and horseradish flavors make it more complex, as a burger sauce should be. 
Cons: If you don’t like mustard or zippy horseradish, you won’t jive with this. Not really a con, just a heads up! Those are the dominant flavors, and that isn’t for everyone.

Huge news for garlic girls: Kraft’s Garlic Aioli is a dead ringer for the thick garlic butter dipping sauce at Papa Johns. Yep. It’s true. 

Pros: This new Kraft Garlic Aioli is super buttery and garlicky, and honestly, what’s not to like about both of those things? Like the picture on the packaging suggests, it’s a great dipping sauce for garlic fries—and, obviously, Papa Johns pizza. 

Cons: Not to be repetitive, but we’re not dealing with an artisan, restaurant-quality garlic sauce here. This is basically pizza chain garlic sauce, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re sensitive to the taste of fake garlic, maybe skip this one. I’ll be licking it off a spoon like a weirdo, but you do you.

If you’re wondering, hey, is this any different than the Kraft Buffalo mayo we already raved about in our spicy mayo ranking? The answer is, confusingly, yes. Kraft Buffalo Style Mayonnaise Dressing is different from Kraft Mayo Buffalo Style Dressing. I’ll let you process that. So far, the packaging and marketing for these sauces have been pretty great, but this was questionable, Kraft.

Pros: As a big Buffalo sauce fan myself, I was pretty pleased with this. It’s spicy—a little spicier than the chipotle aioli—and simply belongs on a fried chicken sandwich.

Cons: In my book, the older Kraft Buffalo style dressing is superior to the newer, creamier one. It has a little bit more of a bite to it. I personally wish both had a little more of that Buffalo tang, but that’s hard to achieve in such a thick, mayo-heavy condiment. I’ll take what I can get.
