It’s a lot of fun to poke fun at food trends. From the hipster avocado toast days of the 2010s to the obsession with Dubai chocolate (it’s good but it’s not that good), it’s pretty easy to look back on our past food fixations and cringe a little. However, there’s one recent trend that—despite being the butt of jokes—is one that I’m a little happier to hop on the bandwagon for. The protein craze is here to stay, people. Truthfully, I think we’re better for it, even if the trend has yielded some genuinely weird high-protein products.

A high-protein, low-sugar diet is a recipe for an energized body, as is a hearty, healthy first meal of the day. Personally, I love a loaded bowl of hot oatmeal or overnight oats for breakfast. It’s probably the most customizable breakfast imaginable and it’s like an energy bomb to get the body ready for an eventful day ahead. Enter Magic Spoon and their newest concoction, turning the most timeless morning meal ever to exist and giving it a trendy makeover.

Magic Spoon Protein Oatmeal Isn’t Your Grandma’s Porridge

Starting on June 11, 2026, Magic Spoon’s Protein Oatmeal will hit store shelves as the brand’s entry into the cut-throat, dog-eat-dog world of oatmeal. This flagship product can be prepared as a hot bowl or as protein-forward overnight oats (combining two food trends into one). Expect classic flavors like Maple Brown Sugar, Apple Cinnamon, and Banana Bread. Personally, I’d opt for Maple Brown Sugar and load that bad boy up with my favorites—namely raisins (an unsettling amount), fresh apple chunks, walnuts, and dates.

Each quick-fix bowl will contain an impressive 15 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar. You can also expect 6 grams of fiber, so there’s a little bit of fibermaxxing going on here, too. The oatmeal will contain no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives—just a lot of macros.

The King of a Quick, Protein-Packed Breakfast

I got my first samples of Magic Spoon cereal a few years back, and I was swooning instantly. For those who haven’t been blessed by a heaping bowl of Magic Spoon, the idea is a sugary, nostalgic breakfast made for health-conscious adults. The cereals are low in sugar and made with whey, so they pack a potent protein punch. I can only assume the brand’s oatmeal will follow in the cold cereal’s footsteps to become your new favorite sugary-sweet bulking breakfast.

I’ve tried a few protein-forward cereals, and not only did I not enjoy most, but some were down-right despicable (cough cough, Ghost cereal). Not the case with Magic Spoon. I’m a major oatmeal fan, and I trust the brand to do right by the breakfast that I believe gets way more hate than it deserves. Usually those to-go oatmeal cups are a little boring and too sweet to me (I prefer my wet, sloppy breakfast from-scratch), but even if this protein porridge is a little thin or bland, for 15 grams of gym fuel, it might be worth stocking up on to use as a base for a customized breakfast.
