We probably don’t need to tell you that dirty sodas are everywhere – but hey, we’re gonna say it anyway! Dirty sodas are everywhere. They’re at McDonald’s. They’re at Crumbl. They’re in canned form. They come in an ice pop. As of mid-2026, you can’t move for these drinks and their combo of soda and creamy flavors.

But you know what? Sometimes, you don’t want to go out and buy a dirty soda, and nor should you have to. These drinks are easy to make at home, and we’re gonna break down how to do it.

First Things First: What Is Dirty Soda?

Dirty soda is, in its base form, a very simple combination of soda, some kind of creamy element, a syrup, and maybe a dash of acidity. The idea is that it’s both thicker and sweeter than a regular soda, but also that it has layers of flavor that take your drink beyond a basic combo of soda and cream. It’s kind of like an ice cream float, but more immediately drinkable. You serve it over ice – a lot of it – and preferably when it’s really hot outside.

So, It’s Just As Simple As Mixing Soda, Cream, And Syrup?

In a sense, yes, but that’s where the joy lies. As long as your basic ratios are right, you can play with the flavors of your dirty soda as much as you like and make new combos. Those ratios are key, though: Too much or too little cream or syrup, and you’ll end up with something that’s either too heavy, too sweet, or too boring.

So, to those ratios! Let’s use a classic dirty soda recipe to illustrate this, which is made from Diet Coke, lime juice, coconut syrup, and heavy cream. For a standard glass of dirty soda, you pour a 12-oz can of Coke over a lot of ice, add two tablespoons of heavy cream, one tablespoon of coconut syrup (which is about two pumps), and a tablespoon of lime juice. If you want that broken down more mathematically, the ratio is 24:2:1 in tablespoons of soda, cream, and syrup – but honestly, just remember that you need a can of soda, two tablespoons of creaminess, and half that of sweetness.

And How Do I Mix All This Up?

By swapping out the ingredients. Fancy a creamsicle dirty soda? Opt for orange soda and use vanilla-flavored syrup. Peaches and cream soda? Use Sprite or 7UP and half a tablespoon each of peach and vanilla syrup. Want a vegan-friendly cream soda? Use coconut cream or a non-dairy creamer. The world, and your beverage choices, are your oyster – and you won’t have to pay fast food prices.
