Throughout my teens and early 20s, I watched with horror as my mother, who had previously cooked everything from scratch at Christmas and on other holidays, started to lean towards ready-to-go options. The cranberry sauce, the gravy, even the potatoes – all slowly but surely replaced by premade versions. Good premade versions, but premade versions nonetheless. “How could she?” I thought. “This is Christmas!”

Then I got a little older, and started making holiday meals myself – and I quickly realized why she did it. It’s because it takes FOREVER and takes up all the space in your kitchen. Some years you might be up for the challenge; some years, you might just want something that takes at least some of the stress out of everything. That’s what McCormick is offering with its new seasoning mixes.
McCormick Seasoning Mixes
This year, McCormick is bringing back its festive seasoning mix collection, while also bolstering it with four new flavors, with the news of them coming courtesy of @candyhunting. With a mix of sweet and savory options, there really is something for everyone here (well, if you use seasoning mixes – if you don’t, you’ll probably find that there’s nothing of interest).
First, let’s talk about the new flavors. They are:
- Salted Caramel Cheesecake
- Garlic & Herb Butter Roast
- Creamy Jalapeño Spinach Dip
- New Turkey Rub
Now, all of these made sense to me except the Salted Caramel Cheesecake mix; I had to hop over to the product’s DoorDash description to figure that one out. Apparently, what you do here is blend the mix with cream cheese, heavy cream, and sugar, and it flavors it for you. In lieu of…vanilla extract, salt, and caramel flavoring, I guess? Anyway – it’s there if you want it!
The Returning Champs
As well as these new options, there are five returning seasoning mixes this year from the brand:
- Brown Sugar Ham Glaze
- Sweet & Spicy Holiday Party Mix
- Green Bean Casserole
- Brown Butter Gravy
- Pumpkin Chili
Again, I get all of these except the Sweet & Spicy Holiday Mix – and I’m not the only one. These seasoning mixes generated a lot of conversation on @candyhunting’s post about them, with a fair few people questioning what’s actually in that flavor (it’s basically a seasoning blend for homemade Chex Mix), and other people questioning whether we need these seasoning mixes at all. That said, there are plenty of folks also seeing the potential they can offer this festive season to cut down on work. Different strokes for different folks; either way, they’re available at Woodman’s now, and will presumably be in other stores soon.
