Can you hear that sound? That cranking, mechanical sound? That’s the McDonald’s rumor mill, and it’s working overtime. The burger chain’s been hard at work this summer, and in between announcing that it’s bringing the Playplace back and dropping a World Cup meal, there’s been a lot to talk about. One thing it hasn’t officially announced, though, is what it’s doing for the US’s semiquincentennial, aka its 250th birthday, on July 4.

According to social media leaks, though, it might be making a move that customers have been begging for for a while: Bringing its Fried Apple Pie back. Well, for a brief spell, anyway. Let’s discuss.
McDonald’s Fried Apple Pie: We Love A Comeback
Word of the Fried Apple Pie’s potential return came, as most food rumors do, via Reddit, when an employee posted a picture of what looks like an internal instruction sheet for its preparation. The sheet stated that McDonald’s was serving the Fried Apple Pie for America’s 250th birthday, and that it would be in all stores from June 22.
The sheet also indicated that the return of the Fried Apple Pie isn’t permanent. While it’ll replace the standard Baked Apple Pie temporarily, that one would be back once the promotion’s over – and we’d assume it’ll end pretty soon after July 4. It’s not quite a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it affair, but you might only have a few weeks.
The People Yearn For Fried Apple
Amongst the nearly 200 comments on the Reddit post leaking the Fried Apple Pie’s return (or, we should say, its potential return – nothing’s confirmed by McDonald’s yet!), a fair proportion of them were in praise of this form of the dessert, and questioning why it can’t just be standard. The last time that was the case across all McDonald’s was in 1992. That year, McDonald’s replaced the Fried Apple Pie with the baked version, ostensibly to make the dessert healthier. 34 years later, though, it looks like we’re getting a comeback.
Other customers in the Reddit thread pointed out that in some cases, the Fried Apple Pie never left. It’s still on the menu at restaurants in Hawaii, and at the Downey, California location, which is now considered the oldest McDonald’s in the world (and which has, alongside its standard menu items, a couple of retro options, including the old-style pie). If you aren’t anywhere near the state or the Downey restaurant, though, now’s your chance. Potentially.
