This week, McDonald’s is giving one of their iconic breakfast sandwiches a hellish kick courtesy of the Saja Boys from KPOP Demon Hunters. The limited-time Saja Boys Breakfast Meal contains the new Spicy Sausage McMuffin, an industry-leading hash brown, a small soda, and a pack of collectible Saja Boys photocards. McDonald’s sent over a gift card so we could try the meal for ourselves. Will the Spicy Sausage McMuffin become our idol? Or will we be washing it down with a little soda pop? There’s only one way to find out.
Since the Spicy Sausage McMuffin is the only “new” item here, we’ll focus on it for our review. That said, I wish that spicy sauce were included as a packet rather than pre-applied to the McMuffin; being able to slather the hash brown in this spicy sauce might have made a bigger impression.
- McDonald’s Spicy Sausage McMuffin Review

-
Pros: I lean towards a McGriddle over a McMuffin in my personal life, but I can’t complain about this true classic on the McDonald’s breakfast menu. The habanero pepper-based Spicy Saja Sauce will definitely wake you up—always a plus for a breakfast item. And speaking of that sauce…
Cons: While the “Spicy Saja Sauce” certainly felt familiar, it didn’t remind me of any previous limited-time sauce recipes (something I knew to look out for, considering both KPOP Demon Hunters McNugget sauces are nigh-identical to previous limited-time sauce releases). Helpfully, Dani Zoeller of The Takeout dug up the truth. Spicy Saja Sauce isn’t a sauce we’ve seen in a previous limited-time promotion; it’s a sauce we see every day. This “new” sauce is just the Spicy Pepper Sauce from the Spicy McCrispy Sandwich and Spicy Snack Wrap!
While I applaud McDonald’s for simplifying recipes for their crew’s sake (considering the film’s rabid fanbase will likely make their lives complicated enough), I do like a little more innovation in my “innovation.” That being said, I believe this promotion was probably turned around on a much quicker timeline than usual, considering the film’s surprise popularity. As long as we see some truly new sauce recipes for the inevitable KPOP Demon Hunters 2 Meal, I’ll forgive this rushed job. (Here’s a plus: If you really like this Spicy Sausage McMuffin, you might be able to order it as a custom item after the promotion ends.)
