McDonald's Shamrock Shake Season Is Coming Soon, Here's All the Details

Time is pretty relentless, huh? It feels like we’ve just finished Christmas and New Year’s, and yet somehow, February is just around the corner – and that means that it’s almost Shamrock Shake season. It probably comes as no massive surprise that McDonald’s is bringing back this most famous of menu items, which has become a little bit of a sign that the cold weather’s coming to a close and that Spring is on the way (and, of course, that Saint Patrick’s Day is approaching, given that the whole point of the Shamrock Shake is that it’s designed to celebrate it).

Given that Saint Patrick’s Day falls on 17 March, though, it’s always a bit of a surprise how early the Shamrock Shake starts to appear in McDonald’s stores. This year, it arrives exactly one month before the holiday.

Shamrock Shakes Will Be Available From February 17

So far, McDonald’s hasn’t officially announced when its Shamrock Shakes will be available again. Luckily, though, Instagram snack-tracker @snachwithzach has revealed that it’s due to arrive on Tuesday, February 17, just a few weeks after the restaurant’s Hot Honey creations roll into its stores in full force, as part of McDonald’s’ new wave of menu items.

For whatever reason, Shamrock Shake Season is starting a little earlier this year than in previous ones. Back in 2025, the shake dropped on February 10 in the US, while it appeared five days earlier the year before. Maybe McDonald’s bosses have realized that you can start Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations a little too early sometimes.

The Oreo Shamrock McFlurry Will Also Be Making A Comeback

McDonald’s is also bringing back a fan favorite twist on the Shamrock Shake: Its Oreo Shamrock McFlurry. This dessert first debuted in 2020, when it was released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shamrock Shake (yep, it’s that old), and ever since, it’s cropped up at the same time that the Shake drops in stores. We definitely think that McDonald’s misses a trick by not releasing this ultra-cooling combo of vanilla ice cream and minty syrup in the depths of summer, but hey, we’re not the ones making these kinds of decisions.

While we’re sure some people will be delighted that the Shamrock Shake is making its way back to McDonald’s, others are a bit more suspicious of their capacity to actually, y’know, get them. “Shouldn’t this say ‘shamrock shakes advertising soon’? McD’s shake machines are never actually working to sell these,” stated one commenter on snachwithzach’s Instagram post. It’s a fair point – those machines are infamously temperamental, after all. With a month to get them this time around, though, hopefully you’ll have a few goes at ordering them before they disappear for good. No word yet on when that’ll be, but it’s usually immediately after the big day itself, so grab yours while you pick up the rest of your St. Patrick’s Day candy.
